Re: people visiting you in hospital
We have very small families, so the only people who visited were my mom, brother, MIL & FIL. On the one hand, it would have been fun to have more visitors to hang out with. On the other hand, I felt gross, was uncomfortable because I couldn't pee or poop, had to get a catheter in, had to ice my hemorrhoids the whole time & in the bathroom there was blood everywhere. So it was probably better that we didn't have a ton of people coming in & out.

Re: people visiting you in hospital
I had two C-sections and I felt awful beyond belief but I loved having visitors. It was such an exciting time that I wanted to share it with everyone.
That being said, I did also LOVE that St. Charles had very restrictive visiting hours. It gave me plenty of time to rest and spend time alone with DH and the baby but just enough time to visit with friends and family. Grandparent hours were from 2-4pm and the baby was able to be in the room and then general visiting was from 7-8pm and the baby had to stay in the nursery. It was perfect.
If I were in a hospital where they had open visiting ALL day long I would've definitely set times for when people could visit or ask them to call first. I would not have wanted people coming and going all day long, that would've been way too much. You need downtime to relax, rest, and recover.
Do what's best for you.

if you deliver at any north shore hospitals, there are no visiting hours. i literally had a family member show up at almost 10pm. i was in the bathroom and someone came in and i thought it was a nurse. so people really don' t think sometimes about calling beforehand. and i had people just show up at all times of the day. i really wish LIJ had visiting hours because of this!
It is not JUST a North Shore LIJ thing- its actually a law that was passed in 2012. Unrestricted visiting. All hospitals must abide by it.

people visiting you in hospital
I personally enjoyed having visitors at the hospital but everyone is different and you can't predict how you'll feel.
Just be honest and up front now. If they say something like, "can't wait to meet him/her" you can respond, "we'll let you know right away. As long as I'm feeling up to having visitors you can come see us, just call or text first and I'll let you know."

As a nurse on a maternity unit, I'm all for visitors. The only thing I ask everyone to please remember is that if you're sharing a room please be considerate of your roommate. I can't even tell you how many times I've seen a patient trying to recover and rest while her roommate has like 20 people in the room after 10pm. Other than that, the more the merrier for me!

Right after DD I told everyone next time, I didn't want visitors. It was too overwhelming for me. They can see you at home when you are feeling better.
