I have never liked the overly psychological approach the trainers take at times with the contestants. I feel they-again, at times-weave in too much "pop psych" to actually get to the root of these contestants' issues.
I think the show does offer motivation and inspiration for a number of viewers and contestants, but I don't always agree with the approaches. I believe Jillian got in trouble this season for using some sort of method prohibited by the show...I can't remember the details though. Does anyone else?
She had given her team caffeine pills. The weigh in for that week was thrown out after that since it broke the rules. Her response was- it's the same as drinking a few cups of coffee. But it was against the show rules so they got penalized.

From a Jezebel commenter:
I hate we don't seem to care when contestants resort to dietary extremes when they are still overweight, but then freak out when a thinner contestant does it. NO one—even if they have weight to loose—should be working out 6+ hours a day on 1200 calories (which is what they do on the show).

I don't watch the show and saw this girl and thought she was way too thin and unhealthy looking. Not a good inspiration IMHO.

I realize this is 10 days old but I wanted to say something about it.
I LOVED the way they did this season. It was one of the best in YEARS in my opinion. But this ending really bummed me out. Because She really looked too thin on camera at the finale. It may have been lighting or what not. But I wish it would have been a nice ending. Not full of controversy, since the rest of the season was good.

She's on The Today show right now. She already put some weight back on. She looks MUCH healthier. Wish I could find a picture to post.

this is what I read this week. I saw this originally in people and was like WTF?? lost too much.
but u know..people are damned if they do, damned if they dont. b/c they are there to lose a lot of weight. thats what she did and is being criticized for being too much. if she didnt lose enough she'd be criticized for that.

SO MUCH BETTER
I'm really relieved. I cheered her on the whole season, really liked her and was shocked at the finale. I figured, she's competitive and smart, she only went that low to win the cash and hopefully she'll get her muscles back. And she did.

MUCH better. She was scary at the finale, but I knew she'd put some weight back on. It's way too hard to keep yourself that skinny. I mean she was 105 lbs!

Was I the only one that thought she was just trying to win and wasn't thinking she had an eating disorder?

Was I the only one that thought she was just trying to win and wasn't thinking she had an eating disorder? nope!!!! I thought this the whole time. That's why I was getting so annoyed with the criticism. Leave the girl alone. She obviously did it to win and now I'm sure she's getting a laugh at all of those people criticizing her, because look at the money she walked away with.
She looks awesome here too! Love that red dress!

I definitely believe that's why she did it. Especially now that she's putting some weight back on. But I think she risked her health for money. And I think that's a terrible message.
ETS: I do not for 1 second believe she was on a healthy diet. If she was she wouldn't be putting weight back on. She would be keeping it off.

I agree with all of this. I never thought she had an eating disorder but I feel the show should probably change the requirements to win. Because as it stands now, whoever starves themselves the skinniest wins a ton of money. And that's just not healthy.

I agree with all of this.
Or she could be exercising less now.
She was a few pounds underweight for a short amount of time, won her money, and everyone diagnosed her with an eating disorder. Wasn't there a previous winner who said she was her winning weight for like five minutes? Everyone knows it's not sustainable to exercise hours and hours a day while living life outside of the show.
We don't know her habits or how healthy/not healthy she's eating. I hope everyone leaves her alone now.

I still stand by my comment of her having an eating disorder. She had one before the show....its called OVEREATING. That is a disorder. It does not just go away it just manifests itself in another form.
