Infant carseat with no base

I know when my nephew was a baby (16 years ago) we used his carseat without the base. And I see that DS's carseat has the same "hooks" so to speak for the seatbelt to be threaded through. Has anybody ever used the infant seat this way? Can it still be done? The babysitter wants to take DS out tomorrow, and I don't really have a problem with it, but I don't have an extra base. And I hate to disconnect mine.

I don't know how to do it, but yes it can be done.

I would look at the manual or google it for instructions. I'm sure the manufacturer has a PDF available online.

I'd switch cars. It's just easier IMO than figuring out the right way to install the carseat w/o the base. I'd be worried, especially in this weather, that it's not installed correctly.

Re: Infant carseat with no base

It is actually pretty easy... I had to do it when I drove my Mustang when DS was an infant.. The base didn't fit..

Yes-it can be done; although I think there's something about locking the seatbelt in place. The belts retract and it's not as tight. Something along those lines...check your manual.

Infant carseat with no base

We took my son home from the NICU without a base just the infant car seat. The nurse used the seatbelt and he was fine.

I live in the city, and don't have a car, so we're constantly using the infant carrier without the base.

It hooks in via the seatbelt. Super easy. We also have the front passenger seat pushed back as far as possible to give the infant seat extra support.

Very easy to do. We followed the manual instructions, then googled a video just to be sure.

Re: Infant carseat with no base

Sorry to be the odd man out and a debby downer but I wouldn't do it. I don't think moving the base is a huge deal and it is safer to me. I know some people have no other option in the city and such but if you can move the base I would just do it.

Also which car seat do you have? I have a Chicco and personally just felt in a high impact crash that the seat wasn't going to stay put with those little hooks. I.e. I was nervous about the seat being thrown from the car. I know it's extreme but my mind thinks up crazy sht sometimes! Maybe I am just super paranoid?
