Childproofing a hotel room door
Does anyone use one of those hotel room door locks or alarms? We are going to be traveling with DD soon and I'm a little concerned about her trying to open the hotel room door.
Obviously we'll use whatever locks are on the hotel door but I'm thinking about an added layer of protection. DD is 2 and is very resourceful.

Unless your dd can move a chair, stand o. It and reach the deadbolt, I think you will be ok.

This is what we do when we stay in a hotel room. Also, don't forget to wipe the phone and TV remote. LOL! Always the first thing the LO's go for.

Use the top lock lever thing.
This - plus some hotels even have an additional lock at the top to keep children from using the doors.
I've also heard to use painters' blue tape to help keep doors closed. Parents/adults can peel it back to get out but kids have trouble doing it.

We usually just use the top lock lever. The doors are heavy and make a lot of noise so I think I would hear them as well if they got the door open.

Here's the thing about deadbolts - most hotel room doors open once you press the handle down, even with the deadbolt engaged. That's what is making me worry. We stayed at a hotel last summer that didn't have one of those top lever thingies and DD repeatedly opened the door.

We went on the Disney Cruise and there were NO top locks or deadbolts. Was surprised, and the handles are low. The doors are heavy though.
We stay at a lot of hotels, and many don't have that top latch, a lot have a deadbolt just like at home, and are low. It just depends on the hotel.
A travel door alarm is what you would want OP. Small, compact, and will alert you when the door is opened. Cheap too.

We make our own door alarm - take a small card (like a business card) and stick it between the top of the door and the door jamb. Then pile on coins or keys or anything that will make noise when it falls. Most often it hits the metal door and you hear it. Try it at home first and see if you think its loud enough to wake you.

DS is super tall for his age (3.5) and has always been able to reach even the deadbolt. What we normally do is lock everything, then pile our suitcases or any extra chair in front of the door so that if he tries to leave, we hear him before he gets very far...
