Where to rent a place in "upstate" NY for a week in summer?
We're looking for a fun filled week for the family where there is swimming, hiking, biking, parks in the area. Less than 3 hours would be great. Ideally looking to rent a farmhouse or accommodations like that, not a tourist place per say.

Lake George! It's got enough to see and do to be a touristy place, but it has so many different areas to rent homes that you can still be apart from it all.
New Paltz is another nice area- especially for hiking.

We went to Skaneateles this past summer and thought it was really nice.

Thanks for the responses. We've done Lake George before and not really looking for that far.

Friends of our have rented a house in Lake placid the last 2 summers. They swim in the lake for swimming and there really isn't anything around them, but they go with family and they love it.
It reminds me of the movie grown ups.

It's a little farther, but Seneca Lake and stay in Geneva. There is swimming, boating, state parks in the area as well. Lots of vineyards...even a NASCAR race track in Watkins Glen, which is south of Geneva. Ithaca is near-by too.
