i guess i need to CIO. advice?

do you think i need to do cry it out with DD@2? she is 7 months and has been sleeping badly lately. she was up every 3-4 hours last night and crying hard. definitely hungry. i nursed her bc i didn't want her to wake DD1 (who had a fever last night) but i have had it. i hate the thought of cry it out, bc i know she can cry a lot, but at 7 months she should not be needing to eat twice at night right?

Re: i guess i need to CIO. advice?

I'm a big CIO advocate, but I do struggle with "do they really need to still eat"? I did CIO at bedtime at 3 months because DS did not know how to fall asleep on his own. It worked like a charm and the indirect benefit was that he stopped waking as much in the middle of the night so I kind of knew when he DID wake up something was wrong (hungry, sick, etc.)

How does she fall asleep at bedtime? I would start CIO there so that you're sure her belly is full and the only problem is inability to fall asleep.

I've yet to CIO in the middle of the night, DS is 9 months and gets up once a week or so at night and I feed him. He had some weight issues at his 6m appointment so I feed him whenever I can. Plan on talking to the Ped at 9m apt about whether or not he needs the feeds anymore.

Re: i guess i need to CIO. advice?

Was she STTN previously? how long since her sleeping patterns changed?

DS2 never STTN until 7 months when we did CIO. It was the best thing for us. He was waking 1-3x a night and I knew he didnt need to eat, (alhtough he would) it was just out of habit. We did that and he has been our best sleeper ever since.

I never did CIO to GO to sleep with either of my boys. They both when to sleep fine, I used CIO for hte middle of the night wakings.

Re: i guess i need to CIO. advice?

My dd is 6.5 months. She still wakes up 1-2 times a night. She sleeps from 8-2 eats, then wakes up sometimes at 3 but usually by 5-5:30. I feed her. I know she doesn't need that second feeding at 3, and probably not at 5, but I give it to her. Eventually, I will let her CIO for that second feeding, but I'm not ready. I do believe she still needs one feeding because she nurses for a long time, not just to soothe. No advice, but I get it.

she goes to sleep fine. i nurse her and put her down asleep or very close to it. sometimes she will sleep 6 hours at a time, but lately its been more like 4. a few weeks back she gave us a few nights of 10-11 hours straight, but it didn't last. she wakes up and has a good feed, so she does seem hungry, but i do think a lot of this is because she knows when she cries her daddy or i rush right over to her bc we are afraid of waking our 2 YO

assuming this isnt just one or two nights you are getting 4 hour stretches, i think you could try CIO. But i would also increase her feedings (which I know as a nursing mom is hard) but maybe if she gets bottles while you are at work give her another ounce in each of them

if its only been 2-3 nights of this maybe its a growth spurt or teething and i would say give it another night or two before CIO.

i did it with DD around 6 months...longest/hardest 3 nights of my life but it worked.
