a little tmi...but looking for advice

I had my son in april and just stopped breastfeeding him a month ago.. I got my period for the 1st time 1/14 and had it pretty light for a full 7 days.. all of a sudden I got my period again on the 29th..and as of yesterday it got so heavy I am changing every hour...I never had my period heavy and normally don't get cramps. I have pains in my lower stomach but mostly on the left side and am bleeding so bad. I am waiting for my dr to open and will be trying to get there in this weather but thought I would just ask here.. anyone experience anything like this??
at first I chopped it up to not having my period for so long with being prego then nursing.. but when I read online its freaking me out... anyones period get all out of wack after getting it for the first time again??

a little tmi...but looking for advice

Mine were very different after I had my twins. The first 6 months after they were much heavier. If you feel like it is really bad and you are concerned call your OB and see what he/she says.

Re: a little tmi...but looking for advice

I just had my first one pp and it was bad! Heavy bleeding, cramps, long lasting, etc. My second one just ended yesterday and it was heavy and cramps, but shorter. I remember it changing after I had my other two, but eventually settling down.

Re: a little tmi...but looking for advice

My first period was really light. Lasted 3 days. It then skipped a month. It came back in March. It was the heaviest ever. Lasted for a week. But I was also dizzy and lightheaded. Couldn't take care of my son. I thought I was going to bleed to death! The OB said it is pretty normal. But the dizziness and lightheaded feeling stayed with me for months. I was becoming anemic during every period. They put me on b/c and thankfully it took care of the problems...

YES! had my first PP at 6.5 months and it went on and off for 5 weeks at various levels, some days heavy, some days light, my OB said it was normal, it's just the prolactin in your body self-regulating.

My periods have been MUCH heavier than they used to be but also MUCH shorter. Used to be about 5 or 6 days, now its 3, maybe 4.

Re: a little tmi...but looking for advice

My first period post partum was horrendous.
Super heavy.
I called my OB thinking something was wrong.
He said normal.
3 years later it's still heavier than it's ever been.
But not as bad as that first one.

Wow. Thanks for posting this! I was assuming all this time that when AF returned it would start off light and get heavier to my normal flow with time.

My periods have been totally "off" since DD was born. She is 20 months now and they're still wonky. I don't remember if it was super heavy like yours is. Glad to see you're going to the doc.

I think I'm the only one who has better periods since having DC. Mine is the same heaviness wise but I don't get cramps anymore. I used to get God awful cramps and I'm very glad that they are now gone! I hope I'm not jinxing myself by typing this. Chat Icon

I'm glad you're going to your OB, I hope you're just having a bad AF and it's nothing more. Good luck!

You guys are freaking me out...ds is 8 months and since I'm breastfeeding I have yet to get my period back. Now I'm scared, I'm so used to such a light short period...

Thanks everyone.. I figured I would update.. So doctor said it is normal and he checked everything out, and said its just my hormones all out of wack. so he wants me to go on birth control to get everything back to regular.. so far since being home my period has lightened up a bit so I might wait on the pills cause I really didn't want to go back on them.. but thanks for all the support!!
