Edgepark & Pumps
So I called Edgepark today to see if I am covered through my insurance, which is Empire/NYSHIP. The guy told me I was able to get the Tomy First Years or the Ameda Purely Yours. I haven't had a chance to look into them yet but I know they are both double electric pumps.
I asked him about the grandfather clause that I heard about and he said he has never heard of that and is not aware of any clause. He had such a thick southern accent that I could barely understand him. I think I'm going to call the other two supply companies available to me and see what they say.
Anyone have any experience with either of those two pumps? I wanted a Medela but if I get one for free, then I'm probably not gonna go spend a few hundred bucks on the Medela.
ETA: Just got off the phone with Byram. They will cover:
Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump No Tote (AD17070P)
Hygeia Q Breast Pump (HG100056)
Medela Personal Double Pump (MY57038)
Checked out the Lucina website and it seems they will cover:
Lansinoh Affinity Pro
Melodi Advanced Breast Pump
Hygeia Enjoye (I think this one may have additional requirements?)
Rumble Tuff
Anyone have any experience with these pumps??

Edgepark & Pumps
I have the same insurance. There is a Medela model covered MY57038. It's through Byram. All my coworkers have suggested using Lucina.. the 3rd company our insurance covers.. but I haven't heard of any of the brands/models on that site.

Re: Edgepark & Pumps
i think the grandfather clause has to do with being covered vs not being covered...nothing to do with specific pumps that are covered.
i would call the other companies that work with your insurance co and see what they offer. i have atena and after making a few calls found a company that covered my medela pump (edgepark did not offer me medela)

Edgepark & Pumps
The grandfather clause refers to pumps being covered, not the brand.

Yes, I've had my insurance sine Sept. 2007 so I wasn't sure if I was grandfathered in and would be denied any type of coverage--he had no idea what I was talking about lol. I am going to call the other companies too.

Right, sorry if I didn't explain that's what I meant...I wasn't sure if I would be covered at all and then he told me I was eligible for those 2 pumps.

This might be a stupid question but are we covered through United Healthcare or BCBS?? The back of my card says United Healthcare Multi Plan in one spot, and in another it says Blue Cross Blue Shield.

No personal experience with any of them. I have read a mix of reviews on the ameda purely yours. Some love it and some hate it. I have read really good things about the hygeia enjoye.

we are covered through united healthcare but blue cross for hospital - very confusing ! I didn't get a pump yet - I just entered the third trimester so I'm just starting to look into it. I've asked a lot of coworkers their opinions and Lucina seems to be the popular company but I'm also clueless on their models

I read good things about the Hygeia EnJoye last night, as the PP said. I need to do some more research. Nobody at my job has gotten a pump recently and all my friends have or are getting a Medela.
eta: On the Lucina website, it says this under the EnJoye for insurance coverage: Insurance Plans - All listed if DME coverage for hospital grade pump criteria are met.
Not sure what the criteria is for hospital grade pump

Re: Edgepark & Pumps
I got the EnJoye through Lucina. I was told the criteria was that the baby had to be/ have been in NICU. (I think they also mentioned that you could get it if the baby was on a feeding tube. Just having been in NICU was enough for them to send it to me.) Our NICU nurse had to fax a script to Lucina for it. It was considered a hospital grade (it is not) rental, that they "rent" for you for ten months and then it becomes yours. Really just a play on words because they send it to you with no intention of getting it back. I was told that if my baby had not been in NICU, they would not have given me this pump. This was a couple of months ago. The pump is pretty good (it is noisy). Very good suction, many levels from low to high, and different speeds. I pumped exclusively for my first two kids on the Ameda purely Yours, and the Ameda flanges are different from the Hygeia. I think Hygeia works with Medela parts. Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions.

To meet hospital grade criteria your baby needs to be premature or in the NICU for another reason. There is that 1 Medela model (which has great reviews) covered by Byram, I think I am leaning toward that.

Thank you! I was reading about Medela and how it is an open system...I read a lot of reviews that stated when they opened up the motor, it was covered in mold
I've been reading good things about Hygeia, which is a closed system. I think I may be leaning towards the Hygeia Q, but I am only 23 weeks so I have time to decide.
