Godparent married to non-Christian?
Can a Baptized Christian whom is married to a non-Christian be a Godparent? They do not have children yet so we don't know what religion they will be brought up or if it matters. I don't think they know for sure yet either.
In hiding because this is a very sensitive topic in my family.

Godparent married to non-Christian?
As far as I know Church requirements are for the god parent only, not who they are married to.

The church does not ask who the person is married to. You can be not married & be a godparent.
Across different Christian groups, there is some variability. I'm the (Catholic) godmother of a child who is Christian but not Catholic.

Godparent married to non-Christian?
I am Jewish and my husband is the godfather to two of his nephews. It was with two different churches and it was not an issue at all.

My Catholic BIL was Godfather to our DD before he married his atheist wife. He didn't stop being Godfather because of who he chose to marry.
He seems to not be practicing anymore though because of her, so that's a whole another deal with us. If your chosen is still practicing, I wouldn't see why the church would have an issue with it.

My DH is not practicing, and married me and I'm Jewish. He was still able to be the godfather of his best friends son.

DH and I are godparents to his cousins son. In order to be godparents, the church needed something saying one of us was a catholic in good standing. DH got the letter and then it didn't matter if I was Catholic, Jewish, or Hindu, I was allowed to be a godparent. If neither godparent is able to produce proof then the godparents are considered religious sponsors not godparents.
This is for Catholicism. Not sure about other denominations.

This, for the Catholic Church, at least...not sure about other Christian denominations, but as long as the god parent has made all of her/ his required sacraments and says they are a practicing Catholic... The Catholic Church doesn't ask about their spouse.

Depends on who you talked too.
The Deacon at our church said that a non-catholic can be a godparents as long as the other one is.
However, the priest at the same church said the godparent needed to provide a letter from their church approving them to be a godparent and their confirmation certificate.
I don't think it matters who the godparent is married too.

My sons godfather is Orthodx- Greek so is his godfather. He is married to a WONDERFUL Jewish woman. The church never asked. The family loves her dearly so it was ok.

We just went to our class to get our daughter baptized. At least one of the godparents has to be able to produce paperwork from their home church stating they are a registered member of the church in good standing. If he/she is married, they had to have had a Catholic marriage.

Godparent married to non-Christian?
My church requires BOTH godparents be practicing Christians (they do not have to be a Roman Catholic) but they both need sponsor letters from their church. They dio not care if the godparent's spouse is catholic.

Godparent married to non-Christian?
The godparent us required to have gotten married in the Catholic Church in order to be a godparent. I just went through this ( and my dad is a deacon too)

It seems like it may depend on the Church. Our Church requires that if the Godparent is married it had to be in the Church. I am not sure if we should find another Church. It has been our family church forever.
