Cruisers please come in.....

We are planning a family cruise (11 people adults 75-35yo, kids aged 12, 7, 6, 9, 3)

We have it narrowed down.....
Price is close enough that its a non issue.
We are going in April
Here are the choices

1 - 4 nights on Liberty of the Seas stopping only at Cozumel (bonus to this one is the kids would only miss 3 days of school as opposed to 5 with the other options)

2 - 5 nights on Liberty of the Seas stopping at Labadee and Falmouth, Jamaica

3 - 7 nights on NCL Breakaway out of NYC. Stopping at Port Canaveral, Nassau and Grand Stirrup Cay.

Some people in the group are hesitant to take the 7 nighter as they have never cruised before and feel it might be too long. But I think the extra 2 days is nothing bc we save airfare, getting 4 kids through airports and to the cruise ports, and the ship is big enough that we wont feel bored. My DH isnt crazy about the ports on the 7 night one either. But I dont think any of them have fantastic ports.

But these are the ones that fit the budget, have enough activities to keep everyone happy and fit the week we can make it happen.

So let me know your thoughts please, we need to book it and seem to be at a standstill! Need some feedback! LOL

THanks!

Re: Cruisers please come in.....

I personally wouldn't choose something under 7 days but that is just my preference.

I would probably say the Liberty of the Seas as I love Labadee and enjoyed going to Jamaica. I don't care for Bahamas.

I have been on Liberty of the Seas and its a really great ship. I don't think you would be disappointed.
I picked the 7 day NCL Breakaway. Its a new ship and as you mentioned should have lots of fun activities and I like the convenience of leaving from NY.
I don't think you would go wrong with any of these choices.

I would go with either the 5 or 7 night cruise. For me, 4 nights is just too short -- especially if you're spending time and money to travel to the departure port.

I would do the 7 night one.... I personally did not like Jamaica when we stopped there on a cruise.

I think the convenience of cruising out of NY trumps everything else. Plus the Breakaway is supposed to be an awesome, brand new ship.

Honestly, none of those ports are really thrilling. Sailing out of NY would be awesome esp with kids and the sea days are the best anyway. You will NOT be bored on the Breakway

Re: Cruisers please come in.....

Thanks keep the input coming!!

Yeah, none of hte ports is great. But as I told DH I didnt really care about the ports bc I feel like there is so much to do on the ship its not a big deal. If we find one port we are interested in getting off for thats plenty.(especially for the RC cruises bc they are shorter)

I really dont want to do the 4 night one. We felt like our Disney Dream 4 night one last year was too short. My son was in tears when we had to leave. But its still on the table mainly because one child is in middle school and its tougher to miss a full week of classes.

Has anyone sailed the Breakaway?

My only hesitation is how rough the waters would be leaving NY area. I have heard from a few people that a cruise leaving from NY is the only time they ever got sick! But that cruise would cost us the least bc of lack of airfare and the breakaway looks really cool!

Cruisers please come in.....

I don't think I could ever do a cruise shorter than 7 days!

I went on the Breakaway and I think there will be plenty for kids to do! We had no problems with rough waters at all.

My parents went on the breakaway and loved it. I chose it because it's 7 days and you really wont want to go home!

Ditto on the cruising out of NY. I really enjoy cruises, but having to fly to board ruins it for me. I've also heard that while Breakaway is nice and new, it's not THAT great. Then again, that's coming from my ILs who just want to relax poolside and not be bothered. Chat Icon So some of the newer features might not have been geared towards them.

I'd still go for NCL's cruise just to leave from NY!

I've not sailed the Breakaway, but I've been on a handful of cruises leaving out of NY. Only once did we ever hit any noticeable turbulence (is it still called turbulence if you're on the water? lol!). It made for a rough night- I actually got sick at dinner and headed to bed early, but the next day was fine and back to smooth sailing. And this was a smaller ship, too. I want to say NCL's Spirit? The bigger the ship, the less likely you are to feel the rough waters- and the Breakaway is MASSIVE!
