BFP today, accepted a new job yesterday
Help! I've had a heck of a time conceiving my second child. It's been 19 months of miscarriages and fertility treatments. So I figured that I shouldn't put my life on hold anymore and I accepted a new job yesterday. This morning I got a really dark line on a FRER. I go for my beta on Monday.
Do I tell the new company? Do I stay at my current job? What would you do?
UPDATE: So I called HR to let them know that I couldn't consider the job without benefits (one of the things that I didn't mention in my original post is that it was a contractor position). She immediately said that there may be a way to bring me in with full benefits. This company offers 9 weeks of maternity leave so I would take it if I was eligible for that. Just waiting to hear back now. Thanks for all of the advice!

Congrats!! I would NOT tell the new company--they def. don't need to know anything for awhile. I would base my decision on staying at the old company or being at the new one on which is better for you being pregnant and having a child. Healthcare, time off..stress level etc..

Congrats! I wouldn't say a word. One thing to consider is how starting a new job will affect time off after baby arrives. If I'm not mistaken, companies don't have to abide by FMLA if you've worked there for less than one year.

Congrats! I don't know that I agree with the others - you are not covered under FMLA unless you have worked there for a year, and I would want to know the company's policy on maternity leave. I personally would either tell the new job or stay at my old job. I would want to KNOW that I have a job to go back to, but that is just my opinion.

I tend to agree with this. I also worry that if you decide to go with the new job and not tell them for a while, it could like to them as though you were not upfront with them once they do find out.

Re: BFP today, accepted a new job yesterday
If it was me, I would stay at the old job. Only reason for me is I get such bad morning sickness with my kids. I couldn't imagine having to learn a new job with new people feeling like that. I also had to call out somedays because I was so sick. Also I would want my sick and annual days just I'm case I need them. You never know how this pregnancy may go. Worst case, what if you where put on bed rest or something. Would you be able to take off without getting let go at new job. Yes I agree to compare stress level and maternity leave with both jobs.
Just want to say congratulations!!!!

I would tell the new company. You will not be covered under FMLA so they do not have to keep your position open for you if you are planning on taking time off after you give birth.
I would judge their reaction about whether I would still go to the new company and leave your current job. My decision would be based on the reasons I was leaving the old job

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to stay at my old job. You all brought up concerns that I had as well. The biggest issue is that they're not obligated to hold my job for me and that's a little too stressful. It's a bummer not to take the new job, but the security and flexibility that I have now is pretty nice.

Even though you won't be covered under FMLA, they may hold your job. I was only at my job for 2 months when I got pregnant, and they treated me the same as any other woman on FMLA.

If you already decided not to take the job, why not just give it shot and talk with the hiring manger and the HR department of the new place? They might really want you and will be willing to be flexible... Tell them like it is and see what they say. They might surprise you!

They will probably hold your job for you, but you won't get paid leave. And you may only get 6 weeks. Or not. If they really want you, then you might be able to negotiate a good deal, assuming you still want the new job.
