Re: flip flops for a 3 year old
My younger DD had flip flops with the backs, but I only let her wear them on the beach at that age. My son is 3 now and I'd probably only let him wear them under the same circumstance. I don't like very young children wearing flip flops--I think it's an accident waiting to happen. Now last summer my girls--at ages 7 and 6--lived in them mostly everywhere.

They shouldn't wear them because they are totally unsupportive of the developing foot, kids tend to trip and fall while wearing them, they limit their ability to engage in gross motor play, they fall off and they expose the foot to hazards on the ground. A better choice is something with a closed toe like Keens or a knock-off Keens like Kohls Jumping Beans brand. They are water proof, have great soles and and be washed in the washing machine.

I didn't let DD where them until she was 4. And I got the ones with the backs from old navy. She was only allowed to wear Them at the beach or by the pool. And there was no running allowed. My dd is also clumsy so I was paranoid she would twist her ankle or something.

Re: flip flops for a 3 year old
My 3.5 year old wears them for swimming lessons, but that's it, and only because the showers are GROSS. I won't let her wear them till she's older, maybe 7. They are trip magnets!

Re: flip flops for a 3 year old
Thanks.
I ended up buying them for the purpose of the beach this summer and only the beach. DD likes to run so i like her in sturdy shoes. If I dont like them when they arrive I'll just return them.

My DD wore flip flops last summer. She turned 3 in August. She wore the ones with the backs on them.

flip flops for a 3 year old
I live in FL, so flip flops are a way of life. DD has been wearing the ones with backs since almost 2. Not on long walking trips, but to beach, pool, running an errands. She also has a pair of Havaianas she wears too, she is almost 3
