milk and constipation

just started dd on milk on Monday (1 ounce in each of her bottles)
she is very constipated today - crying bc she cant go and i assume her tummy hurts Chat Icon

is this possibly from the milk? or is it just coincidence?

should i stop the milk? call the pediatrician? i have no idea how to handle this but feel bad that i cant help her

sounds like it could be the milk. i would give 1/2 oz instead and some prune juice until she is better. Then up it slowly

It could be shes very sensitive to it. All shes had is 1oz in 24 hours? Was she on special formula? 1 oz seems like such a small amount to cause constipation.

My dd got constipated from almond milk. I ended uo having to so a suppository and then she went and i reduced the amount and she was fine after that.

Re: milk and constipation

DD gets constipated if there's too much dairy (not necessarily just milk) in a given day. Are you giving other dairy items?

She's had been having one ounce in all her bottles (so she's had a total of 4oz a day) Monday, Tuesday and today
Aside from that she has no other dairy
She was breast fed til 6 months and then on enfamil infant with no troubles at all

Its def possible its the milk. Her body is breaking down and digesting something new and any changes usually effects their bowels. Try giving her some pear juice or pears. Give her body a week to adjust. But if she doesnt poop in like 2-3 days i would call peds. Maybe even try a thermometer up her butt to see if shell poop. :/

Aftet that incident with my dd i cut back on some but then her body regulated and she went back to her usual bowel movements.

Re: milk and constipation

I just started adding milk to my DS's bottles about a week ago. He's ten months now, I started adding 2oz milk to 6oz formula in his bottles. He showed no discomfort but after the first day of milk he didn't poop for 24 hrs. Once he did, his poop was more solid than normal and he had to work a little harder to get it out. But within a few days his body adjusted to the milk and he's pooping regularly now with no issue. He's doing fine with the milk.

I would give it a few days. Their little bodies just need practice adjusting to the new food in their body. Chat Icon

What about coconut milk, almond milk or rice milk. It's definitely possible her body is rejecting it bc she could have an intolerance to it...like 95% of people who just ignore it and think being constipated is normal or mask with other fluids/foods.
