disney with a newborn

my ds is going to be 4 and keeps asking to go to Disney since he sees the commercials. We have family going in august that we would love to go with but our future dd will be only 3 months old. Am I crazy for even thinking about going? Has anyone gone with an infant? What do you do to keep them cool?

Re: disney with a newborn

I honestly wouldn't recommend going with an infant in August. It's way to hot. I hear a lot of people go with infants and still have a great time. I went last year in September and I was so happy I left my baby at home with my inlaws. I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much as we did and I gave all my focus to my other 2. It was one of the best trips ever. This year we will be going again but my baby is now 1 so she will be coming along.

I went with DS 1 when he was 10 weeks and we took DS 2 at 6 months. It is a great place to take an infant since it's so kid friendly.

Unfortunately - we went in February and late September so I have no ideas on how to keep them cool.

I know people will tell you otherwise, but I think travel with a newborn (3 months) can be very different depending on the kid.

DS was a super easy traveler. He napped everywhere & was OK. We went to DC when he was 3 months old, in the dead of winter & were able to eat in fancy places, go to museums & have him be happy.

DD on the other hand was an absolute terror when we went to Newport when she was 3 months (in the Spring). She screamed the entire trip there & back (by car), she screamed in restaurants, she didn't sleep well. She was miserable & we were not too happy.

Orlando in August is HOT & busy.
I'd wait & see what your baby is like to book it (or finalize it). That's going to be tough...

If you can swing it, take the kid out of school & go later in the year (October, November). A 5 or 6 month old is much easier to travel with & the weather & crowds will be more forgiving.

i am always up for taking young kids pretty much everywhere if we want to go.... BUT I dont think I would do Disney in AUGUST. We took my dd's to hershey when my youngest was about 4 months in june and it was miserable. She was so hot in the stroller and they cant even drink water yet so I felt like I couldnt even keep her cool or hydrated. She was a great napper but just couldnt nap in the hot sweaty stroller in the heat. I spent most of my time going into an ac building and just couldnt enjoy the trip Chat Icon.

I would say go for it except for the time of year. DS was a dream to travel with when he was super young actually still is but his first trip to FL was in May when he was 4 months old and the heat was tough for him. August is just too hot even for me.

My cousin lives in FL and she went all the time with her two kids when the youngest was a newborn/infant. She tells a story about nursing the baby while running for the disney bus or something like that. I think it's definitely doable, I would just make sure to stay cool during the hottest parts of the day.

I would not. Especially in August. I just know I would be preoccupied the whole time about the baby overheating (not to mention me overheating, lol). And then you have the crowds to deal with. I thought Disney was way too crowded when I went in Oct Chat Icon

I don't think you're crazy for bringing a newborn, but you'd be crazy to go in August. Way too crowded and way too hot!

I'd be too nervous bringing such a young baby.... people from all different countries are in Disney land, and the baby hasn't had many shots yet.

I don't think your crazy. We've brought all 4 of our kids as newborns/infants:
DD#1: 1.5 months
DS#1: 9 months
DD#2: 8 months
DS#2: 3 months

We just went in November and the baby (3 months) was the easiest of the 4. He ate, slept and went on a ton of rides.
