20/40 vision. Anyone have experience with this?

DD just had 6 year check up and has 20/40 vision in one eye. WTH?! She was 20/20 last year. I have to call a ped optometrist tomorrow.

sounds like she's got a lazy eye or just needs glasses to strengthen it. I don't know. I have horrible eye sight and have had it since I was measurable. My hubby had one eye bad but didn't wear glasses until it was absolutely necessary so now he has to wear them all the time, just not as harsh a script as mine. My brother had a lazy eye and can still go with or without but really should wear glasses.

My kiddo.. perfect sight. Not sure how since all of his family and mine have glasses. Ironically she's SOOO excited to WEAR glasses! I admit the kid glasses are pretty darned cute these days! I think its a matter of time for my kiddo (she's only 5)

ETA: My sight has never gotten better.. ever. and only gets worse. I'm now up to Negative 8.5 on my right and Negative 7.5 on my left. You can just call me batty! LOL

Just because she had 20/20 vision last year doesn't mean it couldn't be 20/40 this year. It's possible she needs glasses. Many people wear glasses and it often starts in childhood. I got glasses in 2nd grade.

ETA: this is totally normal and most likely nothing to be concerned about! But I'd call an ophthalmologist, rather than an optometrist.

I don't have experience in your situation but DS has been wearing glasses since he is 1 year old. I would definitely go to a pediatric ophthalmologist not an optometrist. You need someone who specializes in children.
I have a lazy eye that was diagnosed in kindergarten when I would sit in class with my head on the desk. Supposed to wear glasses all the time. DS was a preemie and he wears glasses now to strengthen his muscles. But we don't know what the future holds.
