Starting foods
We are thinking about starting Oatmeal cereal in the coming weeks. My pediatrician explained the "do's and don'ts" of solids, but I can't find the paper he gave me.
Someone please give me a tutorial.
TIA

Start with 1 tbsp of oatmeal cereal and mix it with bm in your case. Mix it until it's a good texture...not too liquidy, but not too thick. Start with this once a day. Eventually you can move up to 2 tbsp of oatmeal cereal and/or start with fruits/veggies
Main thing is to wait at least 3 days before introducing something new to make sure they're not allergic.

I followed the directions on the EB Oatmeal box for first feedings. I think it was 1 teaspoon of oatmeal to 4 teaspoons of bm. After a few days I started making it a bit thicker but just eyeballed everything. You'll get a good idea of how much your LO will eat and how thick will be good for them so no need to stress about measurements imo. I always did the feeding an hour after nursing.
With the allergies, like pp said wait 3-4 days before introducing something new. The thing I didn't understand until it was too late is to make sure you give the new food for at least 3 days straight. It can take a few exposures to see a reaction so you want to get a few out of the way and make sure you're in the clear.

Re: Starting foods
Thanks. I am also thinking ahead to when we mix vegetables and fruits. I remember my pediatrician said to give one first as a motivation to eat the other. I just can't remember which one he said to start first.

Its orange veggies first. They are easiest to digest. Squash was my dds fave lol wholesomebabyfood.com has great recipes and gives you a ton of info such as age ranges to start.
You try 1 new veggie or fruit every 3 days. Initially dont mix just do 1veggie or fruit at a time so id there are any reactions you will know which one gave the reaction. Look for any reactions including digestive ones. Rashes, diaper rash, dry skin spots or diarrhea gas pains. After you give all the firsts then try mixing.
My advice is go slow. Follow your dd cues. If at first she doesnt like something keep trying. Even if you take a break and try a week later. It can be a lot of fun try not to stress too much. I stressed too much lol
