Babies and shoes

When are babies supposed to start wearing shoes? When they start cruising? Walking? After that? DD is 11 months and just started cruising. She has pretty much been barefoot til now because I thought that's what was always what they are supposed to do. Opinions?

It's best for them to be barefoot. I used robeez when we were out and about once he started cruising. And then I got him real shoes once he was really walking. But we only use them when out of the house, I keep him in just grippy socks in the house. It's better for their developing bones and learning to walk properly.

I personally waited until she was full on walking, but you can get them now if you wish.

Pediatricians say to wait until they are fully walking and then get quality walking shoes (ie stride rite)

The only time I put shoes on my dd when she started cruising is when we went out side and I knew she would want to stand in a store. stride rite has like stage 1 shoes for that. I waited for a sale and got a pair.
Otherwise she was always in socks even at friends or family's house...

DS was always in socks or barefoot in the house when he started walking and only in shoes if we went outside. It was summer then so I had soft soled sandles, but once he was full on walking on his own we went to stride rite.

Re: Babies and shoes

Barefoot is best. Once they cruised I did buy shoes for when we were out and about so they wouldn't walk on dirty floors/ground.

I got them when DD started cruising so she could wear them out. I thought she would be walking really soon and would need them. But, she is still cruising and almost grown out of her shoes.

We went through the same thing with DD. It took a LOT longer than I expected for her to go from cruising to walking. I got less expensive shoes at first and she wore them a handful of times when she would be cruising around at a party or something like that. Once she was walking more I got her stride rite stage 2's. I can't believe how many sizes we've gone through in less than a year!

Re: Babies and shoes

Dd is starting to cruise. Always barefoot around the house and in others' houses. She has robeez for when we will be outside and I know she will want to stand. I will also throw them on now to keep her feet warm out of the house running errands bc she will pull socks off! I also use the zutano booties for this purpose...

Re: Babies and shoes

Look into pedipeds originals. I loved these for my daughter when she was starting to walk. Next best thing to bare feet.

No shoes until walking. We put DS in soft soles when we go outside to prevent him from pulling off his socks and freezing his little toes!

This. gripper socks at home, shoes when we go out... except she always takes of her socks so she's usually barefoot.
