Potty training- DS is afraid of potty

DS is 21mths and we are attempting potty training. He is fine sitting on the potty with his clothes on but when I put him on with no diaper he gets off quickly, like hes afraid. Should I stop pushing it and try again in a few weeks or should I continue. Any tips?

Re: Potty training- DS is afraid of potty

DD loved sitting on the potty at that age & even did pee pee & #2 a few times but when she hit 2 she was against it for some reason.
Every time I asked her if she wanted to go to the potty or wear big girl panties, she would say "I don't want to be a big girl."
On thanksgiving she just went into my mom's bathroom & said she wanted to use the potty so I started potty training that weekend. She was 28 months.
He's probably just going through a phase & he'll be interested in actually going in it eventually. Good luck!

I wouldn't push it - I would just be casual with it. He's still so young.

I would say not ready. He's still young but I would keep trying but not pushing. That's what we did and now ds is potty training himself. We still aren't pushing since he just turned 2.

Sounds like he's not ready. He's still very young anyway. I would say keep exposing him to it, let him explore at his own pace, but don't push it.

DD is around the same age and I've been putting her on the potty for a few months but we've only had a few successes. I'm not pushing it since it's still so early. I usually put DD on the potty when I'm going too so she'll sit with me. We sing or count and if she doesn't go within a minute or two then I take her off. She actually doesn't like sitting with clothes on bc that's not how I do it. Maybe it's easier with a girl, but I definitely take advantage of her wanting to be just like mommy! She will often tell me she wants her diaper back on though so I figure she's not quite ready.

Not ready. I went through this with DS. Everyone told me when he is ready he will do it, just keep asking him to try. When he was a bit over 2 1/2 he asked for underwear and just started on his own. We then used a reward chart and he loved it. But he was scared to poop in the potty. But just this week when he said he had to go as always we ask him to try the potty he said ok and he went on the potty each day with no questions, he is 5 weeks shy of his 4th Birthday. I now really understand that they will when they are ready.

I agree. I put 22 month old DS on the potty the other day to see his reaction and he yelled "no way!!" and jumped off it. I am going to try to put him on it here and there so he is no longer afraid of the potty but serious training wont begin until he shows me he is ready.

I would hold off for a few weeks/months and then try again.
