I have to go for the 3 hour glucose test- new question in OP
The nurse called me this morning and said that my number was 131 - they like to see anything below 130.
How is the 3 hour compared to the 1 hour? Do I have to drink the drink 3 times?
ETA: The only time I can go is Monday the 20th - but we are having DD's 2nd b-day party on Sunday. As long as I don't overdo it on the b-day cake, I should be OK right?

I have to go for the 3 hour glucose test
It's 4 blood draws. When you get there, they will draw your blood, then give you the drink which is a little bigger than the 1 hour drink. You have 5 minutes to drink it and then they will draw your blood 1 hour after, 2 hours after, and 3 hours after. Only one drink.
Bring something to keep you occupied - book, ipad, charged phone.

i just took the 1 hour and am not looking forward to the 3 hour if I fail - Quest had me there for 2 1/2 hours

Geez! Did you have an appt or were you a walk in?
They HAVE to take you in at exactly 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, after you finish the drink. The phlebotomist told me to go to a specific room where she was about 5 minutes before each hour was up so that way at each hour mark, she was ready to draw blood.

They HAVE to take you in at exactly 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, after you finish the drink. The phlebotomist told me to go to a specific room where she was about 5 minutes before each hour was up so that way at each hour mark, she was ready to draw blood.
I had an appointment and when you walk in they just make you sign in not asking what you're there for since the receptionist is 1 of 2 nurses. I sat around over an hour then finally made a stink saying i was there for that test and they're wasting my time

Make sure u get an appointment n prob the first one of the day is best since u will b there awhile. I went on a Saturday n quest closed at 1 pm so if ur there for a few hours make sure ur last blood drawn is by 12ish otherwise they might not b able to do it. When u walk in tell them ur there for the 3 hour. U failed by so little u will pass the 3 hour.. Don't worry

U failed by so little u will pass the 3 hour.. Don't worry
Unfortunately this is not necessarily true. 
I failed by 6 points and failed 2 of the 4 draws for the 3 hour by 10 pts each.

Oh they either ask me if I had an appointment or also on the sign in sheet, they have a spot for what time your appointment is for.

which location did you go to? the one in babylon on mtk hwy? if you have to go for the 3 hour -try the one on dpa . make an early apt. and you have to let them know that you are there for the glucose test.
to the op - i failed with dd1 by 1point and passed the 3 hour. this preg i just went for the 3hr test. it really isnt that bad. bring a charged phone!!

I did not make an appointment for my 1 hour, signed in at 8:25, they didn't call me in until 9:10 - then I had to sit there til 10:15 for the second draw. Almost 2 hours for a one hour test.
I am calling to make an appointment for this one. Just nervous since I have to fast from midnight before and I felt yucky during the 1 hour.

yea I filled it out but it didn't matter.
Laura I did go to the one in Babylon and normally go to Massapequa. I'll try the DPA one next time or go back to Massapequa. Thanks

i would double check with your dr but mine told me to eat eggs or a healthy breakfast before hand and lie if they ask if I fasted. I wound up eating 2 hard boiled eggs and had some water a few hours before the test

I just called the lab and they told me to fast from 12 hours before I arrive at the lab, so that would be 8:00 the night before. Ughhh. I am not looking forward to this. My doctors office also told me to fast.

I would def make an appt online with quest. I failed my 1 hr by 20+pts. For the 3he I fasted from midnight till my appt at 6:45am. I couldn't not eat for 12 hrs without getting sick. I passed the 3hr.

It really should have no effect on your numbers, especially if it's been more than 8-12 hours from the time you ate and the time you go in for your first draw.
ETA: If you are going to fail, you're going to fail regardless if you ate cake the night before or not.

I got a 124 last week, and the benchmark for my OB is 130; didn't have to take the 3 hour. So interesting!

The drink is more concentrated. I had to sit in the waiting room the entire time. I wasn't allowed to go outside for fresh air or anything. I think that's weird, I don't want false results so I'm not going to do anything to cheat. It was boring waiting to have my blood drawn each hour.
My 1 hr result was 176 but I passed the 3 hr test.
It was always recommended to me prior to the test to pair protein with carbs and stay away from sugars. Will a piece of birthday cake ruin it? No. Either you have GD or you don't. it's how your body reacts to the sugars that they want to find out.

I failed the 1 hour test, but passed the 3 hour.. I had my blood drawn 5 times during the 3 hour test- when I got there, 1/2 hour after drinking the glucose drink, 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours after. I also had to give urine after every blood draw. I had absolutely nothing left at the end of it.. the technician was very nice. She let me drink water (thank God, or else I would not have been able to give urine) and go outside if I needed. Good luck tomorrow!

I did it. It was not the most exciting experience but it is over. Now I wait for the results, hopefully the doctor will have them tomorrow.
