Medically proven reasons to delay MMR to 24mo ?
Please, no flames. I also don't want to start a debate or argument. I've never delayed a vaccine or avoided one, but I often see posters on here and other forums talking about how their doctor allowed them to. I guess my questions are:
What are the medically proven reasons for delaying the MMR? Believe me, I have also hears stories about someone's second cousin's son who stopped speaking after the shot etc etc etc... I would prefer to see a real medical study or case to convince me.
Why did the doctor say that this a prudent decision?
I am coming up to the 15mo mark, and I have no clue what to do, since I feel concerned but I'm not sure why! Thanks so much in advance.

Medically proven reasons to delay MMR to 24mo ?
Idk if there are any medically "proven" reasons at this point. I think they're theories. But don't quote me on that.

Medically proven reasons to delay MMR to 24mo ?
There is NO medically proven reason to delay. If there was then it would be given later. Drs aren't out to hurt babies.

This. The one study I can think of, (which helped spread vaccine mis-information), was proven a fraud and the Dr that conducted it lost his medical license.

Yep. If it was medically proven, they would give the shot later.

The Dr. who did all those studies admitting to lying. Not having an opinion or theory that was wrong- he completely lied, and he did lose his license, after causing millions of parents not to vaccinate or delay.

There are none.
If you actually read the original paper, the conclusions that the public ran with from the paper was not the main point of the paper.
We got ours on schedule.

Re: Medically proven reasons to delay MMR to 24mo ?
I searched and searched, but couldn't find the link...
I read a medical journal article recently that studied the side effects of the MMR on different age groups. They found that children between 12-18 months had less adverse reactions (fevers, febrile seizure, etc) than children over 18 months. It said something along the lines of that we are seeing more side effects because more parents are delaying the vaccine due to 'fear factors'.
It's crazy that the medical community has to reprove the importance of a medically tested vaccine schedule because of some nut job.
That being stated, there are theories that could possibly proven on why it should be delayed, and they may be right, they may be unfounded . Everyone just needs to decide what's best for their family.

Re: Medically proven reasons to delay MMR to 24mo ?
I did a lot of research on the subject as I am in the medical field so tend to get really wrapped up in this stuff. After researching papers and looking at the adverse reporting website I decided to do the MMR around when my doctor recommended ( 15 months). What was very important to me was to not give the varicella combined in the same injection(increases the risk of febrile seizure) and to make sure DS was completely healthy on the day of the vaccine (thus we did it at 16 months instead of 15 because he was fighting a cold). I was originally planning on delaying to 2 years but actually found the reported adverse events to increase after the age of 18months (of which there is also a research paper about). Some thoughts on why that might occur is that the immune system is more developed in an older toddler and thus they mount a large response to the vaccine which causes risk of fever/rash etc to increase. In the end you need to do what makes you comfortable! My DS had the typical/common side effect of low grade fever of 101 @ 7-10 days post vaccine, and v. mild abdominal rash lasting 12 hours. HTH!

Medically proven reasons to delay MMR to 24mo ?
Hi! I just gave dd hers at 15 months. She had no reaction at all. I think a lot of people make you nervous that you should delay it. If you read the reports and listen to your ped, there is nothing that is fact.

Re: Medically proven reasons to delay MMR to 24mo ?
We are doing a delayed/spread out schedule not for any fear of vaccines but because my family has a history of having strong reactions, so I am more comfortable not giving my DS more than one shot at a time. My ped is the one who suggested holding off on certain ones until later when the exposure is greater so we are delaying MMR and Hep until he is a bit older (he's 3 months now).
Not a medical thing per se, just my personal comfort level. I have no qualms about vaccinating, I just don't want to many chemicals he could react to going into him all at once.

My dr delays it to either 18 months or 2 years. He personally likes to have the child be able to communicate before the shot. Which worked out for us with my 1st bc she did have a reaction and she was at least able to tell us her legs were hurting and she didnt WANT to walk. Joint pain is a common side effect. I probably would have been really freaked out if she was younger and just stopped walking for a few days. It only lasted for 2 days.

Medically proven reasons to delay MMR to 24mo ?
Thank you all so much, exactly as I thought. Blogs, blogs, blogs. I guess I was wondering because I have seen soooooo many posts where people say "we will delay MMR until 24 months" and i had no idea why.
I completely remember the debunked "study" that triggered this witch hunt on vaccines for causing autism, ASD, PDD, etc. I don't buy into this theory at all.
I have been reading some of the journal articles and abstracts on the effects of delaying the MMR and the correlation between age and febrile seizures. I think it was a huge eye-opener for me, too because one of my DD's had a very high fever one night, and those seizures are one of my biggest nightmares.
Thank you all so much for reassuring me that staying on schedule is what I should do.

this is why we spread vaccines. i have read anecdotes about reactions, which is my concern as well. i havent seen anything more than blogs either.
