Disney Cruise/Land Package
Does anyone know if Disney does land/sea packages (like the cruise lines do for Alaska), or do you have to book them separately?
If they do it separately, does Disney provide transportation to/from the port like Magical Express to/from airport?

No they don't you have to book separately. They have port transportation, but it's not free like Magical Express. It's $35 per person each way.
Also, I wouldn't recommend using it if you are coming from a Disney resort. Reason being, you get picked up later in the morning and dropped off at the port later. If you rent a car (one way), you can get there as soon as the port terminal opens to get pictures with the characters in the terminal, register for kids club, check in, etc.
I rented from Hertz at the airport. One way for like $37. Dropped the car off at Hertz which is 2 minutes from port, then took their shuttle to the port. It was easy, and less expensive.

Re: Disney Cruise/Land Package
I am researching this as well. I believe you get free magical express transportation to the resort and then you have to pay $35/person to take a coach from the resort to the ship and $35/person to take a coach from the ship to the airport or resort. I spoke to a Disney rep about this but we don't have dates yet so I didn't get more details.

Re: Disney Cruise/Land Package
We found when we did this, that I got better pricing booking separately. Even the lady on the disney cruise line reservation service told me there is NO benefit to booking things together.
I wound up booking everything through costco, because the cruise was the same price yet costcotravel gave me a $190 costco gift card. Booking through disney I didnt get any bonus.
Then after pricing it all out I found staying off disney property to be a better deal again through costco. We stayed at Sheraton Vistana Villages in a 2bd, 2bt for the same price as if would have been for Pop Century.
The only thing was obviously we couldnt use disney transportation. But using some codes I found online I ddi pretty well on a car rental.
However if you stay on property you can use disney transportation to and from port canaveral. However I found it to be kinda pricey.
If you want any specifics I can give you the breakdown on what we paid for everything individually back in April 2013. Obviously prices will be different but it can give you a good idea.

When was this? I just checked every rental car company, and the least expensive rental I could find was $150 (and that was with a discount code).

Actually Disney brought back Land/Sea packages this year, but it's really a marketing thing and you're better off booking them individually.

September. I rented it for one day. Arrived at the airport Wednesday night. Picked up car. Checked into hotel for night. Drove to port, returned car the next day.
We took Disney transportation back to the airport after the cruise since I wasn't sure how long everything would take, and our flight was at like 1:30 IIRC.
You can do a one way to the port, drop it off. Do a one way back. If you park at the port, you would be paying parking fees also, so at that point it doesn't make sense to rent the car unless you will be using it for the entire land portion of your trip.

How do you insure the entire trip if you don't book as a package? Do you have to purchase two different travel insurance policies?

I would go with an outside company for travel insurance. It's cheaper and you get more for your money. If you go to insuremytrip.com you can get quotes. You just put the total dollar amount of your travel, including your air. They don't have to be booked together.
