What do you make of this?
I went today to return something that was given to my daughter as a gift for Christmas. It was from Target - a toy with a gift tag on it. When I got to the counter - they said that the gift tag - taped to the box - was not for this particular item. Not a huge deal - but this is actually the third time that this has happened - all from the same person. The gifts always have gift tags taped or stapled to the item. I'm not sure it's relevant but the gift giver has two daughters - one a few years older than my daughter and one who is about a year older. The first time I figured they must have just mixed up gift receipts, the second time I was baffled and now I am super curious about what is going on. One of the gifts we were just swapping out for a bigger size so it didn't matter. This time it was a toy she already has so we switched it for a different toy. Any thoughts as to what the story might be?

Gift receipt you mean? She probably mixed them up since there is NO identifying information on the Target gift receipts.

What do you make of this?
But 3 times? Maybe she regifts items from her kids but sticks on gift receipts from other items to make the regift look legit?

Three times is strange though. Maybe she buys similar gifts for a few kids and doesn't keep them straight. It could also be Target messing up. Yesterday I returned some toys that I had bought and had both the original receipt and a gift receipt and they told me one of them wasn't on the receipt! I sold them I 100% bought all three things together and all were on both receipts. There was a buy one get one half off offer so that was the only thing I could think of as an issue. In the end, I got my full refund but it took a while.

That was my first thought, but then why would she give a gift receipt at all?

What do you make of this?
Target gift receipts look generic but if you look closer then you'll see the sku is listed. She may have just took the gift receipts in order and attached to the gifts as she wrapped. I had 22 gift receipts and didn't realize the skus were listed till the 4th gift then I went back and matched the receipt to the gift.

Maybe she doesn't realize that not all of her purchases are on the gift receipt? TRU and BRU put everything you bought under a single gift receipt so you can attach any gift receipt to any item purchased at the same time and it works. Maybe she thinks this works the same way?

I would think this as well--she probably doesn't realize they have to be attached to the EXACT item.
