Parenting Books

I haven't read any! Should I? Any BTDT moms have any must reads? I'm starting to feel a little guilty about it!

Re: Parenting Books

I haven't either...but my plan is to do what feels right, and when all else fails, ask my mom or my doctor.

Parenting Books

The book of this is really happening and I'm up every few hours. Jk. Honestly no book is going to help you. I do have some apps on my phone. By the time you leave the hospital you will be more comfortable. Also, as things come up you ask your other mom friends, dr, etc.

Besides, you're going to get all the advice in the world even when you didn't even ask for it!

Re: Parenting Books

as a new mom, I didn't read anything before I had my baby. but a friend have me a book she relied on when she had her first baby and I definitely used it for reference often in the first few weeks. it's called "heading home with your newborn."

Parenting Books

IMO they are worthless. A book can't teach you how to parent and no two babies are alike so the advice in the probably won't work for your baby.

If you want to BF, I highly recommend The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. It not only talks about BFing, but the entire parenting style that comes along with it.

I also like Dr. Sears books. I own The Discipline Book and The Baby Book, but haven't read them cover to cover...I just skim to the parts I need at that time.

Of course, most parenting comes from trial & error, but I find the books helpful when I get advice that doesn't sound right. I like Dr. Sears parenting methods, so I always like to see what he says on the matter.
