Very elevated quad results, does anyone know if this will put my health at great risk?
At approximately 18 weeks pregnant, my quad results came back with three very high elevations of AFP, free beta HCG, and Inhibin A. Each of these were in the 99th percentile, scoring between 2.60 and 2.88 MoM. My obstetrician told me my results were a rarity, and had me repeat the test, which I did at 19 weeks. Yesterday, I was called and told the results were slightly worse, with my AFP now at 3.18 MoM, and the the other levels still elevated as before.
I was told that the risk of my baby having an open neural tube defect went from 1:15 to 1:5. I was also told that the elevated Inhibin A indicates I am at higher risk for pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, placenta issues, stillbirth, restricted growth and preterm delivery of the baby.
I will be having an anatomy scan in a few days to see if the baby has any defects. I hope to hear good news, but cannot stop worrying about my own health and well being. Having lost a cousin who died from illness while pregnant, I am especially sensitive and fearful. Could anyone kindly advise their opinion is of my results, and how risky continuing this pregnancy would be for me? Many thanks in advance.

Sending you lots of hugs! All of the health concerns you listed can be closely monitored. I would consult a maternal fetal medicine specialist if you have not already. The only condition that could be dangerous for you is pre-eclampsia. You can monitor your blood pressure at home with an automatic blood pressure cuff and educate your self on the warning signs.

Re: Very elevated quad results, does anyone know if this will put my health at great risk?
i had high levels of AFP also. first blood draw was at 18w & i scored a 2.2 they drew my blood again at 19w & it stayed the same. i was told of the numbers go up between blood draws its not good. my numbers for spina bifida were 1:100
i had my anatomy scan at 20w & met with a high risk doctor who said everything looked great & based on my numbers i had nothing to worry about. the sono will give you a better idea of whats going on vs the blood work
feel free to pm me with any questions... i went through helllll for weeks stressing about this so i researched like crazy lol

Re: Very elevated quad results, does anyone know if this will put my health at great risk?
I just got the call on Thursday that I have an elevated risk for NTD's based on my second trimester screen...my first trimester screen was fine. My midwife didn't give me numbers and referred me to the genetic counselor who will speak more in depth about the risks and the possibility of doing an amnio. I couldn't get an appt. with the GC until Jan. 21 so that's when I'm going. My anatomy scan is Jan. 20 (I'll be 21w1d). During my early anatomy scan at 16w5d, everything looked great...which my midwife said was hopeful. She told me not to freak out but we all know that's impossible! I'm just trying to keep calm for the next week.
Lots of for you!! I'm sure everything will work out
