Road trip to Nashville...

Going on our first road trip (well more than 4 hours) with the 3 kiddies to visit friends in the Nashville, TN area. Looking for some fun stop(s) along the way to break up the trip a little

We are planning on doing a little chunk of the driving on a sat night after a family party and then the bulk the next day!

But we feel like DC is a little too little for the sat night drive! We would like to get a little more done mileage-wise

Any suggestions where we can stop that is along the way to Nashville and not really out of the way - maybe 6 hours-"ish"

Looking I guess for spots in Virginia (Charlottesville) or West Virginia (Charleston) but I really don't know anything about these areas!

Thanks!?

I actually wanted to do this trip over holiday break. But we were worried about weather. I have never been there but wanted to go thru the blue ridge mountains and stop at the caves along the way.

Now i see there are a bunch I will have to see which ones are better!

If you do go soon, Could you let me know what you found along the way? I may shoot for late spring to do this trip.
Thanks..
