Purpose of pull-ups

I understand that it is to get them used to pulling underwear on and off, but in order to get a new one on, you have to take everything off. Am I missing something? Is there a better way to do this? I never used these with DD#1, and am now trying them with DD#2, and it seems like I'm doing something wrong.

Purpose of pull-ups

I don't use pull ups, but I do know that they make pull ups that open on the side so you don't have to undress your child each time they wet the pull up. I think Huggies open on the sides.

Re: Purpose of pull-ups

We didn't use them for potty training, as they are just like diapers in theory.

DD sleeps in a pull-up bc we got rid of diapers, and we tell her the pull-up is for big girls at bedtime. She stays dry about 75% of the time at night... But I'm not comfortable having her sleeping without one yet. She's been potty trained since October and is 31 months.

Re: Purpose of pull-ups

I'm not up to training yet but I've heard a lot of discussions that pull ups are not good bc kids need to feel the wet discomfort after peeing in their pants, and the pull up (a diaper) takes this discomfort away, hindering training.

Re: Purpose of pull-ups

I initially had no intention of using pull ups but DD saw them in the grocery store and wanted them because Rapunzel was on them. That being said I have found them useful the last few days in that it is giving her good practice in putting them off and on. They do have velcro on the sides for easy off.

I don't use them either.. DD uses undies during the day and diapers when she sleeps.

dS is recently potty trained. I use pull ups for things like long car rides where he might fall asleep, or when I send him to his nursery school 2 mornings a week- in case he gets distracted and forgets to tell the teacher he needs to go.
Other than that- yeah, they're no easier than diapers, really.

We only use pull-ups for sleeping. We call them nightime underwear. When we started potty training we went straight to undies.

It's better to go from diapers to undies - I moved DS to pull ups in hopes of training him quicker and it didn't work (and it cost a lot more $$).

The only thing it was helpful for was daycare.

Re: Purpose of pull-ups

We used pull-ups for a few reasons.

1. DS was too big for regular diapers. (at 2 1/2 he was wearing the 4t-5t pull-ups)
2. we didn't "train"him per se as went along with what he felt comfortable with.
3. they did teach him how to pull underwear on and off without getting too many accidents.
4. while they hold the urine, they do feel the wetness, which helped to alert him when to go.
5. he is in daycare 9-5 so it was easier to do pull-ups then have 4-5 full changes of clothes. (when he had accidents he would demand to change everything)
6. still not nighttime trained so need them for that

they work for some, don't work for others. i think it depends on your child and your needs.

This. We JUST potty trained over the weekend with this past blizzard. We ditched diapers and pull ups during the day and he only wears them at night for sleeping. He knows they come off when he wakes up.
