Foods for 8 Month Old

Hi there :)

DS will be 8 months old this week.

He's been eating pureed foods since 4 months old and is a great eater.

For the past month Ive been trying to introduce more "solid" but soft foods including eggs, tiny pieces of potato.

He doesnt seem interested AT ALL. He just mushes it around in his mouth and spits it out. I'm confident that its more so the consistency than taste as theres nothing that he wont eat as long as its pureed.

What kinds of things did you start to introduce to get your child used to eating solid foods?

Am I trying to introduce too early or maybe too late?

We have a well visit this weekend so I am going to bring up to the doc, but I am just curious to know what others are doing.

My dd is 8m too. She still eats purées and anything on our plates. We started with organic puffs and offer her bits of whatever we are eating. She wasn't a big fan at first but now waits for us to give her stuff when we are eating. If she is in her highchair we put bits of all different types of foods so she can practice feeding herself.

I started fingers foods at 8 months and it took DD a little while to get used to it. I mixed pastina into some of her purees which she loved and she also liked puffs and cheerios. Other things took her longer but I tried steamed carrots, peas, green beans, banana, blueberries, pancakes, toast, meat, squash, sweet potato.

DS loves food but refuses pastina. I think that's just a weird consistency and if he's refusing other mushy food, I don't know if he'll like that.

Personally, I'd try crunchy foods. Puffs, Cheerios, yogurt melts.

You can also try soft pasta (not pastina) but like ziti cut small or even soft meats, like meatballs. Basically, I'd just try whatever you're eating and see what he likes. The more he tries, the more you'll find what he likes.
