When did you give DC a lovey to sleep with?

DD is 7 months and the past week and a half she's been crying hysterical the minute we put her down for a nap or bed. I think it's mostly teething though. She is a thumb sucker and likes to hold something in one hand while she sucks the other. The past few nights/naps we've given her a lovey to help her soothe herself to sleep and it's worked like a charm. I'm ok with leaving it in the crib with her but DH has made me go in after she's asleep to take it out because he's afraid she's going to suffocate! Just curious about others experiences!

6-7 months old. She had a little satin blankie that someone made for her, she wouldn't go anywhere without it. When she slept, she tucked it up under her cheek as she sucked her thumb at night.

She's 5 now, still has her blankie and takes it everywhere and still sleeps with it at night. Chat Icon

When did you give DC a lovey to sleep with?

We started at like 4 months. DS never used a paci or his thumb, the poor kid needed something! We did the aden and anais lovey with the satin trim.

4 months. DS adored his lovie.

Sometimes at that age I would move it after he fell asleep to a corner of the crib where he could still see it if he woke up. But after a couple of weeks, I stopped.

Re: When did you give DC a lovey to sleep with?

At around 14 months DS was teething and it seemed worse than ever so I offered him his stuffed monkey at bedtime. He gave a huge, sleepy smile & lifted his arm for me to put it under. Has slept w it every night since. I also went & took it out after he was asleep for the first few weeks, but after a while I felt ok about it & left it in.

At 16 months. She has a small stuffed Elmo that she sleeps with and then plays with after she wakes up.

I've been wondering this myself. My 13-month-old DD tries to take her little monkey to bed, but I always take him away and put him down and she waves night night to him. She sleeps holding the sleep sack she is wearing, but I kind of feel bad for not letting her have the monkey.

When did you give DC a lovey to sleep with?

I started leaving my dd teddy bear with her around 9-10 months. I used to be paranoid too but I know a lot of people who did it before then.

I started using a blanket around 12-14 months. Its a hand knitted one so it has holes and in my mind GOD forbid it ever went over her face it has holes. Though she would know to take it off at that age.

At around 9 months I started keeping a little monkey attached to a tiny blanket in there. Sometimes he likes it, sometimes he ignores it.

I think it's fine to leave it. If she's able to roll, she'll roll away from it if it goes on her face or whatever.

DS is 11 months old and has been sleeping with things in his crib for months. He's up to 1 lovey, a small bear and a big stuffed puppy. Whatever makes him happy!

Re: When did you give DC a lovey to sleep with?

Around 9 mos. when she started daycare; she needed something for security. I got a bunch of the aden anais security blankets and constantly wash them so dd isn't attached to a growing "smell" from one. Initially, I just draped it by her as we snuggled with her bottles to make the connection that it was a security object. Within about a week or two, she really got it and now uses it to help fall asleep and as a transition object when I'm not around.

Out of curiosity, what do people use as loveys? Are these just security blankets? I'm envisioning the little stuffed animals with the blankie hanging off but it doesn't necessarily sound like that from this post.

Since my ds was born he slept with the Aden and Anaise blankets. He now hold it, sucks his thumb, then goes to sleep.
