Car Seat Guidelines changes???

Link

So confused.

I don't know how much the car seat weights but I don't think its over 30lbs. But I know its supposed to be good for kids up to 70lbs (at least) so yet another thing I have to think of?

Think its time I move her into a booster *sigh*

Car Seat Guidelines changes???

Ok found out it weighs 22lbs, she weighs around 35. So by this article, 8 more pounds and I should stop using the latch.

anyone else heard of this?

Yes I heard of this recently. It just means you can't use the latch, but you can still use the seat belt to secure the carseat and the carseat is still good til 70 lbs.

haha thing is she's getting too tall for it. I doubt at 70lbs she would be short enough for the seat. We were just saying a couple of days ago. Twice her weight she'd be a pudgy little thing to still be in that seat! She's got about 2inches from the top of her ears to the top of the sides!

Haha mine are the same way. Only about (maybe) 20lbs but def at least 30 inches so they outgrew the infant seat by height first. I originally bought convertibles that go to 70 lb, but I know they wont be in them still at 70. I exchanged for 50lb weight limit ones.

A suggestion I read on another board by a car seat tech was to use latch rearfacing and then seatbelt forward facing and you won't have to worry about it. They said the heaviest seat is just about 25 lbs, so if your seat rearfaced to 40lbs you would never go over the latch limit and that forward facing seatbelt installs are pretty simple most of the time. And seatbelt install is just as safe as latch.

Also, most car seats are outgrown by height instead of weight. The weight limits are high to help accommodate overweight children. A forward facing carseat is outgrown when the shoulders are above the top strap slots or the tips of the ears are above the shell.

Good rule of thumb - when the child hits 40 pounds do not use LATCH anymore.

Most seat go to higher weights and I agree with the last post.
