Hospital Bag
FTM What did you bring to the hospital for you? I know what you're supposed to bring for the baby but I wasn't sure what people bring for themselves.
Do I need to bring pads and stuff like that? Will I be able to wear what I normally wear? Should I buy a nightgown?

Re: Hospital Bag
They will give you everything you need for the baby during your stay so just bring a going home outfit. For yourself, I brought dark colored (because you will be bleeding a lot!) maternity sweats. And loose fitting t shirts and tanks. I stayed in the hospital gown the first night (gave birth vaginally at 4 pm). The next morning they took out my IV and let me shower so after that i changed into my sweats and t shirt. I also brought some make up- made me feel better and more like myself for visitors.
They should provide you with pads, etc.
I brought my own granny panties. Big ugly comfy bloomers!

Re: Hospital Bag
Thank you so much! I am going to buy the big old panties, but wasn't sure about the pajamas.
I am wearing my husbands pajama pants, I guess I will have to buy some of my own, I dont think he would appreciate them being ruined!

I got really cheap maternity sweats at Old Navy. Online- not sure which stores have them. I still wear them to bed- 3 1/2 years later- soooo comfy!

Re: Hospital Bag
Instead of the hospital pads, I wore disposable underwear (aka adult diapers). I didn't have to worry about the thick hospital pad sliding around and leaking. A friend gave me this tip.
Other than dark colored PJs (I brought a nightgown and pants, but mostly wore the pants), bring comfy socks or slippers, pillow if you prefer your own, boppy type pillows for feedings, camera, phone/charger.

Thanks for saying pillow! I absolutely can't stand hotel pillows so I'm sure I won't like the hospital one either. I was planning to take the boppy as well.

Re: Hospital Bag
i brought my own pads from home b/c the hospital pads are like diapers.... i had a csection so couldnt move the first day, but after that, i wore my own pads & it was great!
i would also bring pants that you can pull up above your belly button area.... IF you end up with a csection you wont be able to wear anything that sits at your waist
and i also second the dark colors!! i bled through 2 pairs of pants with my first!

Re: Hospital Bag
For myself, I packed yoga pants, nursing tanks, hoodies and slippers. Toiletry stuff: contact solution, chapstick, soap and shampoo. You may want your own towel for the shower - the one they gave me in the hospital was the size of a washcloth. You may want to bring your own pads, the ones the hospital gave me were those big bulky things that were uncomfortable. Also don't forget cell phone charger and camera charger. I probably packed more stuff, but this is what I ended up using.

I highly recommend the Always Infinity pads. Super thin but absorbant. I would use 2 of them stacked on top of each other and they were still much thinner than those old school pads at the hospital.

You don't need to brings pads and all of that. They provide that. I wouldn't buy a nightgown or anything new for the hospital. You will be bleeding and I think just comfy clothes will do..nothing new that can get ruined.
I brought more things then I needed/used. They really provide you with everything you need.
This time around I will bring comfy clothes to wear, makeup, brush, and toiletries. Also, nipple cream, They had some there, but I prefer Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple butter.
