need registering help RE: husband

DH thinks that we should only register for about 1/4 of the items on the list that Babys R Us gives you. He feels that if we register for most of the things on the list, we won't get the things we really need. I plan on having about 50-60 people at my shower and will also probably have a shower at work. Did you girls register for most of the things on that master list or did you leave a lot off? Did you get everything on your registry? Thanks so much.

I registered for everything. My theory was in the end I'll get a discount on what's left.

When I read your post, my first thought was "We can register for husbands??!"

Ha! Thanks for the advice. That's what my friends are saying, but we aren't going to have too much money when the baby is born, so my husband's thing is that he doesn't want to be stuck without the necessities- stroller, etc.

Put everything on there, people are SO generous with baby showers. Our registry was cleaning out - and then some - and I wish I put a few other things on as well!

I agree- plus you can always exchange stuff for what you really need if you have to.

I only put the stuff I wanted and thought I would need down the road. I didn't even bother looking at the list. We had about 40 and their a were a couple of items that were not purchased and I didnt buy them myself So I guess I could do without it. Also I didn't want to end up with whole bunch of stuff that I wasn't going to use but had to store.

Re: need registering help RE: husband

I registerd for what I really needed and wanted which was alot but no as much as the list suggested. There are things that you need and dont need on the list. Plus I wouldnt register for too many clothing items- you are going to get clothes regardeless and its kinda a waste of time imo. I got almost everything on my registry that I needed, I didnt have to return much and didnt have to buy much when the baby was born.

I think that the list BRU gives you is a little excessive. I remember looking at it and it had like 10 different strollers on it. I went through it before we started registering and crossed off stuff we didn't think we needed or had room for. We registered for everything that was left on the list.

BRU wants you to spend $$$ there, so a lot of what they put on their list is bogus. Also, you will find that your SIL's baby loved the Dr. Browns bottles, but you rfriend's baby only liked Avent- every baby is different.

I highly highly highly recommend the book Baby Bargains. It not only tells you how to save $$, but also makes recommendations based on actual mother's use. It tells you what is unesscesary and why.
Maddy is 7 months and I still refer to it for purchases.

Register for a lot of stuff. You'll be surprised how generous people are. Plus, it's better to have too much stuff on there for people to choose from then not enough.

Re: need registering help RE: husband

I had only a 40 person or so shower and got everything on my registry and some. My inlaws kept telling me I needed to add stuff adn I couldn't find stuff to add.

I registered for all the main things. The only things I didn't register for was clothing, bibs, soaps, medicines, all that small stuff and I got plenty of it. I didn't register for too many toy type items as well - I probably could have add more car seat and stroller toys. Oh and I didn't register for furniture or a glider - we bought that on our own or people offered it to us as gifts (parents).

Personally, I don't think there is much to register for one baby so I would do it all.
