Is this cheap - daycare gift question
My 7m dd just switched classes 2 weeks ago. I'm giving Old main teachers - $40 each and an ornament Main Assistant - $25 and an ornament 2 straggler assistants -$10 gc to Dunkin donuts New teacher and new assistant 10 gc to dd and ornament - this is the gift I'm second guessing Cookie platter and brownie platter for whole staff.
I'm thinking of maybe giving $20 cash to new main teacher but Dh says the $10gc is fine since she's only been with her for 2 weeks. Thoughts?

I HATED when they switched like that !! - I think it's fine.
I give to the main teachers, the assistants that I see, and the two women who consistenly fall all over my boys regardless of whether they are with them all day or not.
I then do a huge cookie/brownie platter for the whole center to share ........Otherwise, Daycare would cost me an additional $1k for the month of December !!

Next year she will probably switch mid year so ill have to give double the amount of gifts. She just moved to the crawling room and she turns 1 mid year at which point she will probably move to the walking room. I already know part of the gift I am getting teachers next year so may start buying early.

Sounds good to me! I recently found out that a few parents at dd's daycare don't tip at all! I thought tips were standard.

I think it's partially expected, but I wouldn't say it's standard. Especially when you're paying the equivalent of a mortgage per month. Many people just can not afford it.
I honestly don't gift b/c "I have to" - I don't believe in it. My sons have great teachers, for those who go above and beyond for my kids, I go above and beyond for them to show our appreciation - but I don't just as a standard 'have to' kind of thing. IMO, that kind of diminishes the sentiment behind gifting to the teacher who really does amazing things for your kid -

Our daycare provides a list around the holidays so I feel like even if I didn't want to give something, I have to...

No, I agree with you completely! I don't give tips or gifts because I feel like I have to, but I absolutely want to and feel that these women deserve everything I give them and more. They are with my daughter full time - 45-50 hours a week and are so wonderful with her. She loves going to daycare and it makes me happy that her daycare teachers are making it such a wonderful experience for her. So, for me, it was shocking to hear that people don't give anything for the holidays to the people who care for their children so well!

I think that is nervy. Not everyone has the money to give gifts.

I think that is very generous. I worked at a daycare and I didn't get much in terms of tips. A bunch of candles, a few gift cards. Not from all the parents, but I know daycare is a huge expense and I wasn't expecting it from everyone.

Yeah. WOW. Very nervy. All these people get a salary right?
Tipping is so out of hand these days. But that's just my cheap honest opinion. LOL
I never tipped when my daughter was in nursery school.
