dayacare and gift giving question

I bought gifts for the teachers and the director for DS's daycare.
Today, he came home with a gift from one of the other kids. this boy brought gifts for the whole class.

is this something that is normally done? (i know in poland it is, but didn't think ti was an american thing) should i also have gifts for all the kids in DS's class?

dayacare and gift giving question

My kids have only been in daycare since October, but I don't think that's the norm. Today the daycare had their holiday party. There was a sign up sheet to bring in treats- brownies, cookies, fruit, cheese & crackers, etc. One parent in my older son's class made everyone goody bags, but not gifts. We gave something to the teacher and assistant teacher, and an edible arrangement for the office staff. That is it.

Re: dayacare and gift giving question

Every so often throughout the year I've sent in cheap little treats or toys, like from Party City or something, for DD's daycare. Stickers, sunglasses, craft supplies, stuff like that. But there are only 8 kids in DD's daycare and I don't spend a lot. I don't think it is normal or expected to give gifts to all the kids for the holidays.

Re: dayacare and gift giving question

I did last year and plan on doing it this year too. I usually get something from the Target dollar spot for each kid...

Eta: this is only our second yr in day care so I have no idea what the norm is.

Re: dayacare and gift giving question

I used to make little treat bags if they were having a party or something. but gifts to each kid..no. and I wouldnt feel obligated to give even though your son got a gift from someone. that just gets to be too expensive.

Re: dayacare and gift giving question

Some of the parents do treat bags for the class .........
I don't - Not b/c I'm a scrooge, but it's just ANOTHER thing to add to my 'to do' holiday list, and it's long enough.

I have a hard enough time fitting what I WANT to do w/ my kids and DH w/ all of our 'obligations'

Some do, some dont. I fall into the "some dont" category. I have enough to do already.

DS got a few cute things last year. I typically only bring in things for Valentine's day and for their b-days (which I may stop soon since nobody else seems to)... DS 1's b-day is this weekend so I have little goody bags made up (but, I made sure to note it was a b-day thing).

Re: dayacare and gift giving question

I didn't do goody bags for Xmas, but in dud them for Halloween and came in to do a Chanukah craft with the kids and gave some goodies then.
