Crib/nursery from the start?

Dd slept in our room in the RnP for 4 months before we started transitioning her to the crib. It was a long, frustrating process and eventually we just let her sleep on a mattress on the floor and gave up on the crib all together. Hoping to avoid going through this again with the new baby.

Did anyone have their newborn sleeping in the crib in their nursery from day one? My mom did this with my brother and me but I haven't heard of many people doing it recently. Any thoughts or advice would be wonderful!

We didn't, but DS is 10 weeks and is in RNP in his nursery since 6 weeks. That alone made a tremendous difference in his sleep routine. Maybe that's an option for you? Now that DS is getting more comfortable on his back, I might introduce the crib in a month or two.

Crib/nursery from the start?

I did with my son. In crib after a few days of bassinet (he hated it) he did fine. He was almost 10lbs @ birth & was too big for bassinet

We used a bassinet for 1 month and DD hated it. She didn't like to be bundled, so she would sleep with her hands out like the cross and when she hit the wall of the bassinet, she would wake up screaming.

We put her in the crib at 1 month and she was much happier and sleeping TTN within a week or two.

When we were kids there was only a crib -our parents didn't have all these options. And all babies did just fine in cribs. So yes, you can put your baby in a crib from day 1 and they'll adjust.

We tried DS everywhere at first and he wasn't ever happy...until we tried his crib. Naps he slept in the swing until he was 5 months and then he went into his crib for then too.

Re: Crib/nursery from the start?

we had my son in his crib & own room since the first night home from the hospital. the first night was pretty rough, but looking back i think that was a combo between me being a first time mom & not knowing what the heck to do with a newborn lol

after that first night, it was fine! we swaddled & used a sound machine so i'm not sure if that helped, but we never had any issues! now at 3 years old, i've never had any sleep issues at all!

i'm sure i'm in the minority with this, but i've never brought him into our bed before...ever!! i like that he knows where he sleeps and he knows where mommy & daddy sleep so if he needs us he can come and get us!

i'm due with #2 in april & plan on putting him straight in the crib from night 1!

We did with both DC. Made our lives easier, and DC's lives easier. One less transition for them, and we slept better. If DC cried in the middle of the night, whoever had that night's baby duty would turn off the monitor, then go to DC's room. Sometimes, the other of us wouldn't even wake up, or if we did, we could easily fall back asleep.

We put DS in his own room, in his bassinet, when he was 2 weeks old. We tried having him in our room, but he was such a noisy sleeper! He was fine n his own room. We were right next door and we had the video monitor. We all did better this way! Chat Icon

DD was sleeping in her nursery by her first day home from the hospital.

First night was the bassinet, and then the second night we put her in the crib.

Both my kids went into their cribs , in their own rooms, the first night they were home. It was never an issue, they both go/went down with no problems.
