For those who have had Mastitis

Did you go on antibiotics for 7 or 10 days? This is my second bout of it this month, the first time she only gave me a 7 day rx but this time I have 10 days. I am almost done (2 more days) and am feeling much better but I am so afraid I am going to get it again. I don't think I could handle it if I did. I don't know how I ended up getting it a second time! I didn't have (or didn't realize I had) any clogged ducts- just had awful pain and chills, fever, awful flu like symptoms. THEN I would feel the lumps, since I was so engorged.

I am doing all that I can, but I still have a painless lump. It does not hurt but it's starting to make me nervous. I have tried heat, massage, hand expressing and it's just not moving. I have my 6 week appt in 2 weeks so I will of course mention it then- but did anyone else ever have this? Could it just be an after effect?

I took antibiotics for 10 days. The lump stayed for a few weeks after- it's from the inflammatory response, it's like swelling.

I took lecithin supplements per the recommendation of my lactation consultant due to recurrent plugged ducts. But you can also get it from having cracked nipples as that's a way for bacteria to enter from your skin. Feel better! The more rest you can get ( a stretch I know) and the stronger your immune system is the less likely you are to get it again

Thanks, I started taking lecithin as well. I guess what's making me nuts is I am not sure how I got it. I am leaning towards the cracked nipple since its still too painful to nurse on that side. At the moment I am EBF but with a 3 year old its very difficult. I am hoping to start just 1 bottle of formula a day but after this whole thing clears up!

10days. I only had mastitis once, but got plugged ducts every week for about 5-6 weeks (starting 3w pp). The Lecithin helped.
I am really sorry that you have had this twice now!!! Horrible.
Feel better.

I took antibiotics for 10 days. I still get lumps every once in awhile, but I usually take a Tylenol before bed and by morning it's gone.
