travel 5 hours on christmas day to see family (party is at aunts house 45 minutes further than my moms and starts at 2pm) or just travel the next day and spend a few days with family then?

I have chosen to do the latter because I'm not up for getting 3 kids in a car at 9am to make the christmas party. It's utter chaos and exhausting.

And while I'd LOVE to be there it's just very hard with the distance. We plan to head to NJ christmas night to DH's sisters house and have dessert there, then go to my moms the next day. I just am feeling guilty and need someone to tell me not to, lol..

I would visit them after Xmas. NO way I'd be rushing around Xmas morning, which is the BEST part of Xmas IMO, for a party. Your kids will be tired, cranky, and probably annoyed that after opening all of those Santa gifts they now have to run out and not play with any of their new stuff. It sounds like too much craziness IMO. Chat Icon

Stick with traveling the next day! I hate traveling 20 minutes with my 3 kids on christmas morning, i couldn't imagine 5 hours.

The next day. It is not fair to the kids or yourselves to travel that far that day.

Re: would you...(holiday related)

I have made a stand - we don't leave the house on Christmas Day.

I have an open invitation after 3 or 4 pm for anyone and everyone to come by and hang .......but I am not rushing though Christmas morning w/ my children to 'get' anywhere, or do anything for anyone else.
I'm not spending my whole day prepping, cooking, serving and cleaning while everyone else enjoys my kids ......

So, I say skip the day and head out to family over the weekend.
