My Team green birth story

Hey ladies. I thought I would share my birth story bc I know I loved reading them when I was pregnant. I especially loved reading about 2nd time moms because I was always wondering if my 2nd would be anything like my first. My DS came pretty fast. Water broke at 330am, contractions started at 7am and I delivered him at 12:45pm I didn't have pitocin or anything and I pushed for about 30 min.

Since he came fast and without any intervention I was so afraid this baby would come even faster and I wouldn't get to the hospital in time for an epidural!! Even the doctor told me not to wait if I had contractions. To just go get checked.


In the weeks leading up to my due date i had a lot of contractions. some painful some not, but they were timeable. Sometimes getting as close as 3 min apart. I was constantly watching the clock wondering if it was the real thing. I had a 1 year old at home so I had to make sure I could get someone to my house in time. It was very frustrating having all those contractions!!


On Monday at 38w I had an appt and asked for an internal to see if these false labor contractions were doing anything. I was 2cm and 50%. The nurse practitioner repeated to me if I had consistent contractions I needed to go get checked. She also mentioned she would be at the hospital on Wed but she didn't think I would make it until then.

When I got home I had some cramping and spotting and assumed it was from the internal. Around 4pm I started timing them and noticed they were coming about every 10 minutes and I just felt like it might be real this time. I called DH to come home and finished packing my bag. I called my mom to let her know she was on call. When DH got home the contractions slowed down so we went for a walk. Walking made the contractions pretty strong, but again they slowed down when we got home.

We decided to try to get some sleep so we went to bed. I couldn't sleep though bc I was having mild contractions every 5 min. I decided to change positions to see if they would stop. I got up, showered, walked and they stayed consisitent but not really painful. I woke up DH and called my mom.

We got to the hospital at 2am. I was 3cm and told I could be admitted or go walking. I think the dr decided to admit me bc of my first delivery. If this had been my first I probably would have been sent home. My contractions were all over the place. They would come every 3 min for an hour then stop and then start again. It could not have been more different than my 1st labor!!!

DH and I walked around the LIJ lobby from 4am until 545am. I was so exhausted since I didn't sleep at all and I just couldn't walk anymore. When I got back to triage I was 3-4cm...barely any progress. There werent any beds in labor and delivery so I was stuck in triage until 830am!

When I finally got a room the nurse said I could have an epidural. I said no since my contractions stopped again. She said if I was going to get it anyway why wait. So I got the epidural.

At 930am one of the doctors came in and he was so mad that I had the epidural and wasn't even contracting. He broke my water and left. At this point I was beyond exhausted and frustrated I just broke down in tears. Thankfully my doctor ended up coming in. He delivered my DS and all I wanted was for him to deliver this time too!

At 10:30am they started pitocin and my contractions started coming every 2 min. I was 5-6cm when I was checked at 11am. At 11:30am the epidural wore off on my left side and it felt like something was crushing my left hip. Dr said it was a good since and he checked me. I was fully dilated and time to push!

I did one practice push and he said baby will be out on the next push. Whattt?! I couldn't believe it!! The next contraction came and I pushed 2x during it and out she came! Dr said to DH what do you think it is? And DH said I think it's a boy! And then doctor said its a girl!!! I was so confused!! Then the nurse said yup that's a vagina! Best moment ever and makes being team green so worth it!!

Devyn Grace was born at 38w 1d weighing 6 lbs 7 oz 19 inches long at 11:47am. She is our little angel!!!
