Cabbage leaves

I've read on here that they can be used to soothe and heal breasts, but does it diminish supply? My nipples are cracked and bleeding, and sticking to the breast pads. I want some relief, but am afraid it will reduce my supply.

Have you tried Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple butter? It was a godsend for me!

Also, warm wet teabags after a nursing session helped too!

Re: Cabbage leaves

Im pretty certain that cabbage leaves are used to soothe your breasts when you are trying to dry up your milk supply.

cabbage leaves are recommend to use when trying to dry up your supply - so if you plan on continuing to bf, i would stay away from them

i used lanisnoh cream when i started bfing dd and it helped a lot
i also ended up using nipple shields until i was fully healed bc the pain was unbearable when bf-ing

Cabbage leaves

Can you call your on or lactation consultant and ask for a pscrption for apno or all pruspose nipple ointment, it has an steroid and Advil and heals them super fast.

I don't think cabbage is for cracked nipples, I've heard for mastitis or oversupply.

Also try the soothies nipple pads- you can get them at target or babies r us. And use lanolin constantly, warm it in your hands and then apply it

Cabbage leaves

These are great for cracked nipples: https://www.lansinoh.com/products/soothies-by-lansinoh-gel-pads

Cabbage leaves can be used to soothe engorgement, but they can have the effect of decreasing supply. So if you use these, use them sparingly.

Feel better!

Re: Cabbage leaves

I don't know if it's possible, but I think I'm allergic to the Lansinoh Lanolin; every time I use it, it burns & itches. I've been using this Bella B Nipple Butter. I'll try the warm tea bags, and I'll compound that APNO (I'm a pharmacist), or I'll have a colleague make it for me.

I'm trying to still give DS my milk, so I'll stay away from the cabbage for now.

Thank you all for your replies, I really appreciate the help!

Re: Cabbage leaves

Those soothing gel things helped me a little. I also tried using coconut oil - that made them feel a little better. I didn't like the lanolin stuff - not sure why, I just didn't.
I used the cabbage leaves to dry my supply up last time. I hated it - but they worked for that purpose.

I also used coconut oil last time I had an issue (DS had a virus that altered his latch-- holy OW!). Nipples heal on their own pretty effectively if you can stand nursing through that horrific pain. The oil combined with the soothies were really helpful. I think Target carries them, maybe also drug stores and BBB/BRU.

I have had a dried cracked nipple, regular blisters, blood blister and the most painful of all milk bilsters. I only have one side that produces so I powered through. The only thing that helped was letting the nipple air dry for 10 min then applying motherlove nipple cream. I also had to stop using the pump since it made it worse. I hand express now. Good luck!
