Crying baby....Help!!

DD is 6 weeks old and the dr thinks she may have reflux. She is in Maalox and we just switched to similac sensitive for spit up yesterday. She is sleeping well at night but she cries all day. When she is awake she is not happy and I have to hold her. She will fall asleep in my arms and wake up as soon as I put her down.

I feel like I'm reaching my breaking point. I have a 15 month old who has been sick this week and I am losing my mind.

Any tips on what I Can do to help dd be more comfortable? I can't hold her all day long when I have to take care of DS too. He was such a good baby so this is all new to me. Is this reflux? Colic?

Have you tried wearing her? In a wrap or Ergo? It will give you free hands and she can be upright which babies with reflux seem to like a lot. DS is 6.5 weeks, doesn't have reflux but does have painful gas often and we use gaia infant probiotics as well as gas drops and those seem to help as well.

I'm sorry you're going through this It's so hard to see them in pain.

i was actually going to suggest wearing her - like ina wrap as well. DD was like this. only she was bad during the night, not during the day. when she was that brand new she wouldn't sleep anywhere except my arms so i started wearing her to free up my hands. eventually she was diagnosed with acid reflux but not until she was about 3-4 months old. we tried so many different formulas to help and the only one that actually worked for us was Similac Alimentum. I'm sorry your both going through this! I hope she gets better soon!

DS was exactly like this - I was losing my mind!! I used similac sensitive, playtex ventaire bottles and gas drops before every feeding. I should have worn him more often so I would also suggest that. It took a while, but it did get a lot better as his gastro system matured

You may need alimentum or nutramagen. When we switched dd to alimentum she was so different.

Do you have a rock n play you can put her down in? Anything on an incline....

Thanks ladies!! I have a hand me down Bjorn from my sister. Ill try her in that. She sleeps in the RNP at night. But she doesn't want to be in here during the day.

The ped said next step would be Zantac if the sensitive doesn't help.

Zantac made DS a different baby.

ETA: We also put him on Nutramigen. The combination made him so much happier and more comfortable.

If she has reflux she might be allergic to milk. It was 9 miserable weeks with my son until we found out he was dairy allergic. He was switched to amino acid formula. New Baby!

My first DD was like this. Do you have a swing? That saved my sanity! We also changed formulas. At that time she was on Gerber Goodstart Protect. She was like a new baby after that.

Maalox and Sensitive did absolutely nothing for DS. It wasn't until we switched him to Alimentum and Zantax that we all got some relief.

However, he was colic so I held him A LOT!!! He was just not happy unless he was being held. Wearing him help me a lot.

We burped him every ounce, kept him upright for at least a half hour after feedings.


It was terrible and I can't imagine doing it with a 15 month old. Hang in there.

What are the symptoms of a milk allergy? My niece and nephew had it but they had blood in their stool and that's how they knew.

The Maalox seems to be helping in that she doesn't projectile vomit anymore or even really spit up. She is just fussy after bottles. She eats fusses for 2 hours and then it's time to eat again! I'm going to see ow the sensitive goes for a few more days. Hoping something works soon!

We are also putting together the swing this weekend! I am taking down the pack and play to make room for it! Anything that will help.

Hang in there. Wait a few days before you start thinking colic or allergy or anything. When DD was 6 weeks old, she went through a couple of days where she cried for about 4 or 5 hours a day. It was torture.

Remember that at 6 weeks their vision really sharpens, and they can start to see what's around them for the first time. And they FREAK OUT. It happens to every 6-week-old I know, but parents are usually so exhausted anyway, they kind of forget about it by the time the next one comes.

Hang in there! Ds was colicky and had reflux

He screamed all day and all night

It took us four kinda of formula to find one that worked for him

Frequent burps after every ounce. Smaller bottles in regards of oz per feeding

Sleep on incline

Gas drops before and after every bottle

Baby yoga.

But the big difference was te meds. He needed them

Def get the diaper tested for a milk allergy as well
