Please help with nap advice....

I need some help. My daughter is 13 months old and down to 1 nap, but I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

She'll show the signs of needing a nap 2-3 hours after eating breakfast. Rubbing eyes, yawning, starting to get cranky. So I put her in her crib and watch on the video monitor. Sometimes it takes her 1 - 1 1/2 hours to fall asleep!!

I feel like she's in her crib all day!!! But I know she NEEDS a nap, but I hate that it takes so long for her to fall asleep.

So I guess I'm asking, how long does it take for your LO to nap once you put them down? Is there a point when you give up on them trying to nap - say after 1/2 hr, 1 hr?

Please help with nap advice....

I do not put my DS in his crib when he is showing signs of being tired. I let him fall asleep. I feel like if I put him in every time he showed signs he's be in there all day. He gets bursts of energy so one minute he could be tired the next running like mad around the house.

IMO I would give up after 30mins or so. When my DS dropped to one nap it was always mid day unless he didn't sleep well the night before or was sick.

What do you mean? Where does he fall asleep?

My DD JUST fell asleep now, and I put her in there at 12:30!

Can you do something with her to distract her a bit and put her down later? When DD was adjusting to one nap she would still show signs of being tired at the same time in the morning as she did when she took two naps but then she wouldn't last the rest of the day. For a few days I would take her out to do some errands to do some errands and keep her from getting crabby. It helped her adjust and eventually she was fine with being up an extra hour or two and now naps at 12:30 or 1 instead of 11.

DS cries EVERY.SINGLE.TIME we put him in his crib for a nap. I mean, he starts to cry when we get within 5 feet of the crib. This isn't normal??? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Once he's in his crib, we let him cry for 5 minutes. If he is going to sleep, he will fall asleep within those 5 minutes. Otherwise, we take him out and try again in 15 minutes.

That's a good idea. Maybe I'll try that. So frustrating.

I agree with the distraction, it buys an hour or so.

I would have to say why do you have her down to one nap when maybe she is not ready?? If you cut out the am nap, what time was her pm nap? Is she waking up same time every morning. You need to make sure she is to get her on daily routine. My boys are now 2 but have been on an 1130am nap for some time. They wake up at 6am 6:30 everyday
