Elementary school holiday sale

My sons is in prek, his holiday fair is coming up. what is a good amount of $$ to give him to spend? It would be me,dh and ds2. Considering grandparents, but he has 6 and i dont want to torture his teachers, he is very indecisive. lol

A lot of the stuff is kind of junky IMO, so I wouldn't go crazy. A couple bucks for each. I've seen kids bringing in $50, and leaving with a lot of crap.

Re: Elementary school holiday sale

At my son's PreK they sent home an envelope with a list on the outside of the envelope dividing it into siblings, parents, grandparents, etc.

I put down mom, dad, brother Brayden, nana, grandpa, papa and grandma.

Even tells you around what some prices are and then you can write about how much to spend on each for the list we provided. I wound up sending in $20 and I got change. It is cr*p, but I thought it was cute that it's something he picked out himself, which made it special. Next year I know to send less. I just like that the school asks for a list so the teachers can go down the list and let DS pick out exactly what he wants for who and stays in the price range I requested.

We usually send in $30.
Our envelope also has a list with who the child should buy for and the budget for that person.

Is it junk, yes....but the fact that they take the time to go pick out each gift and are so excited that they did, its the best piece of junk I receive all year. I got a cheapy necklace from DC one year, it looks like it came out of a gumball machine and I wear it ALL the time bc it means so much to DC when I do and is therefore one of my favorite pieces of "junk."

DS has his holiday sale tomorrow. I gave him $25. I wrote on the envelope that he should get something for his sister, us, and himself.

I just came home from volunteering at the holiday fair at my sons school. I was assisting K, 1st and 3rd grade. I have to tell you the majority of these little guys are so proud of their gifts. Sure there is the "diamond and jewel ring" and tons of best Mom best Dad Mugs and pens. When you see how thoughtfully they go about their shopping and how excited they are to find that AWSOME diamond heart necklace because Mommy loves hearts it's so worth it.

I volunteer also. I agree that they are proud of their gifts. My son bought me a pillow hanging years ago and I still hang it on the door. My point was just that most of it is not very good quality, so I would stick to a lesser amount per recipient, so they aren't blowing $20 on something that will likely fall apart.
