Pregnant and flying
I am flying to Florida next week and I was thinking about me and airport security.
I am going to ask my doc on Monday, but how do we go thru security? Can we go thru the metal detectors and scanners or should I get a pat down?

I flew a few times while pregnant and I just asked for the pat down. It was easy enough and DH and I just allowed for a little extra time to go through security since they have to call someone over who is able to do the pat down.

You go through the old school scanner (not that crazy one that's new). I denied that one when I was like 24 weeks pregnant. Or something like that.
Other than that it's no big deal. Florida is a very easy flight.

flew 2 weeks ago at 9 weeks. at JFK I said I don't want to go thru the machine - got pat down, no fuss. U don't even need to give a reason. Then on the way back went thru old school metal detector.

I flew a few times while pregnant with dd. they say the new scanners are safe but I requested a pat down instead. Most of the times they just sent me through the old scanner instead but a few times they patted me down

Everyone was going through the scanners, but the guy saw I was clearly pregnant and pulled me aside for a woman to do a pat down without me even asking. This was at JFK

Pregnant and flying
Flew down to Orlando last month while 19w. I opted for the pat down at both JFK & Orlando. They were both very thorough in their explanations before the pat down. I felt like I was felt up by the nicest people lol. It took like an extra 5 mins only b/c they had to find a female. DH just collected our stuff from the belt and sat on a bench til I was done. Easy peasy.
ETA: I would have gone through the metal detectors but didn't want to go through the new full body scanners.

If you are visibly pregnant they will pat you down automatically.
If you are not showing, you just have to tell them you need a pat down.
