cough medicine

I've already called my ped, waiting for a call back just curious if anyone has given their 3-4 year old cough medicine? DS is 3.5 and weighs 38/39lb.

His sleep has been majorly interrupted by a phlegmy cough (post nasal drip - the whole family has it).

I am just looking for something to give him at night before bed to help him sleep/keep the cough away - if it exists.Chat Icon

Yes, my DD is 3.5 and we have been giving her cough medicine. It really does work. The age range on the bottle actually says 4-12 yrs. She would not get any sleep if we didn't give it to her. Hope he feels better soon Chat Icon

ETA: We buy the Target brand, it's dextromethorphan HBr and guaifenesin

We have been giving the Little Tummies Cough medicine - it's basically liquified honey in an easy to dispense format and it has made a huge difference.

Our ped hasn't given us the approval to use any "real" cough medicines yet. He did say though that Benadryl was fine to use to clear up post nasal drip.

Let me know how your DS likes the lollipops - those might be more of a hit than the medicine is in my house!

I don't give DS Benadryl since he had the reverse reaction - it made him crazy - the one time he took it.

Re: cough medicine

I gave my son the children's mucinex that is approved for ages 4+. He weighed as much as a 4 year old, so the doctor said okay. It helped a lot!

My kids do not like the taste of Zarbees. They do like the Hylands one with honey. It works really well too...you can give every 15 minutes up to 4 times if needed.
