daycare naptime
any parents out there of daycare kids who refuse to nap... Logan has offically kicked his only nap (he kicked it at home almost 6 months ago). They are giving me a hard time with his lack of "resting", but he is a hyper 31 month old boy and im not sure what to do... tips or advice?

Surprisingly we have the opposite.
They say she naps for an hour and a half to 2 hours every day at daycare-but at home- no naps ever- for months now.
But I don't see why they are giving you a hard time about him not napping. You can't control it. And last I checked you are paying them to take care of you child- so that means they have to deal with it- nap or no nap.

I kicked DS' nap at daycare for him (he was staying up past 10pm each night which was tough when DS 2 gets up at 5)...
Could you send him in with some activities to do while they rest? By law, they have to put out their mats. They usually put DS with a few other non nappers in a corner and let them play quietly during naptime. They all bring in some toys from home. I've found out recently that DS is also playing with his teacher's phone (which I'm not happy about) during rest time.

At the daycare DS goes to the kids that do not nap play on their cot quietly.
If your DS can't play quietly then I would think they would give you a hard time. Can he do the quiet time?

yes. he naps at home on weekends but not at daycare any longer - he is 3.5
the majority of children in his room no longer nap and it has been tough since a few still do.
I suggested giving him books to read quietly. he "rests" sometimes. sometimes they take the non-sleepers for a walk. sometimes the non-sleepers go into another room (depending on how numbers work out).
tough age. there have been some troubles during nap time (kids getting into trouble, disrupting sleepers etc).

This was us, for months... no no naps at all... even at daycare

If your DS can't play quietly then I would think they would give you a hard time. Can he do the quiet time?
This is the problem, he is a very hyper 2.5 year old... and he has never had to have quiet time so they need to teach him about it. He doesn't need quiet time at home as he is an only child and hasn't napped at home in almost a year
They are getting frustrated that he isnt automatically quiet and restful, but this is foriegn to him

I think the school should then work with him on teaching about quiet time. He may need a bunch of quiet things piled up on his mat (puzzles, crayons, etc.) and someone helping guide him through the process, making the expected time longer and longer.

Does he sleep well at night? If not then I would just consult a dr. My friend was having problems with her son at this age & now that he is 5yrs old, just diagnosed with ADHD. I don't want to scare you...but something to think about.
Whatever time they want to have him nap, I would start enforcing quiet time at home also.

I think they daycare can help teach home but it is something that will need to be worked in at home.
My ds is also an only child but he still has quiet time. Whether they nap or not it is still good for them to be able to play quietly.

I'm not in fear of that at all, im a social worker who spent over 10 years working with developmental disabled people. I don't believe he is adhd at this time. He sleeps like a champ at night and can certainly focus on a task at hand at home and at daycare. He never needed quiet time as a only child so it is a new concept to him.

My ds is also an only child but he still has quiet time. Whether they nap or not it is still good for them to be able to play quietly.
He plays quietly at home alot, but by choice. Not forced two hours of quiet like the daycvare would want. It is very different

This sounds great, I will pass this idea onto them! This is the kind of constriuctive stuff i wanted! Thanks so much!!
