Where to stay en route to the catskills
Hi
We are going upstate - catskills - I think near wyndham on thursday. Traveling from eastern long island on wednesday and arriving there on thursday. Where would you stay along the way? Would like to get past the city by maybe an hour or so?
TIA

I would just drive straight to where you're going, it's not a very long ride.

An hour or so from the city doesn't get you too far from the Catskills.
There's a nice Sheraton right off the Thruway in Mahwah, NJ (Sheraton Crossroads) but, it's less than an hour from the city. There are also some hotels near the thruway in Nanuet, NY (Fairfield Inn, Comfort Inn) but, still less than an hour from the city.

I would look at the hotels I recommended earlier. Once you get past Mahwah, you have the area around Woodbury Commons and then around 1-84 but, that is not too far from the Catskills themselves.
There are also a bunch of hotels before the Tappan Zee bridge in Tarrytown.
It may be easier to play it by ear and see how traffic goes and then make the call.

We go to Mahwah in the winter to go snow tubing. I would travel further than that. It takes us 1 hour 20 minutes to get to Mahwah from Port Jeff. We travel 5 hours to Hershey (with traffic), and the kids do fine. I would just drive straight through to be honest.
