remind dh's to never walk away from their kids when alone...
I am sure that the DH's on here are much too smart to do this but please have a talk with your DH's about keeping your kids close.
I was at Cradle of Aviation with a friend and her children for a playdate today and witnessed this...
I got there before the other mom and started walking my DC and her friend to the building. I walked by a dad pushing a stroller going to his car. When we crossed to the sidewalk I noticed by one of the columns a little girl about 3 or so leaning against a column all alone. No adult outside or anywhere around. Cars were driving by only a few feet away. The only adult outside was the dad with the infant in the stroller several rows away going into his car. I went inside and went to tell someone but the man got back to the girl before I could. Later we were together in the play area. The other mom and I were horrified that this man again left this little girl playing in the playroom. He was pushing the infant all the way across the lobby by the gift shop. My friend was horrified because he wasn't even looking in the direction of the play area. Anyone could have walked with this poor child we were not alone in the play area. My friend was afraid to say anything because he seemed irritated and you never know with people these days but several commented on it. He never seemed concerned nor in a hurry to get back to her. Very sad.

That is so messed up and sad. I hope she will be okay in the future... Sounds like the father is a spaz.

I have seen both men and women do this to varying degrees. I wouldn't say it just happens with men. It sounds like he was overwhelmed and needed help. I saw something similar happening w a 3 or 4 year old boy standing unattended by the road, and I actually stepped in and took the child to the parent. I didn't care if the parent got mad at me, I couldn't stand there and watch a child get hit by a car.

The sad part I don't think he was overwhelmed. He looked calm and indifferent. The baby was very good and not crying. The other mom said she went up and said she was hungry and wanted a snack and was told no and stop bothering him. I think people might have offered to help or been understanding if say the baby was crying and he seemed flustered. This was different very calm and indifferent. The other mom I was with pointed out that he could have walked the stroller around right in front of the play area rather than looking in the window of the gift shop across the lobby. Both times were long enough for anyone to walk with the child. Luckily we were all keeping an eye out. With the outside incident he was not hurrying nor looking back to see if she was ok which is why I didn't connect that they were together at first.. Even my child and her friend were like mommy why is that little girl all by herself.
Yes it could happen to men or women but it stuck a chord after a thread on here where a dad left the kid in the car for a second and the stroller alone outside.
Etd to add I waited a minute with her but saw a security guard inside so that was who I was going to tell but he got back to her before I spoke to him. I had another child with me to so I didn't want to have a confrontation since he was back.
