Re: My DD has a problem with cows milk

When we transitioned to whole milk DD had constipation issues for like 3 months.

I switched too fast. I did the transition over like 3 days, when I should have done it over like 3 weeks.

She's been pretty good lately.

I limited the dairy (no yogurt, cheese, things like that), and gave her prunes/prune juice/pear juice.

I never switched - I figured she was just adjusting.

Other options are almond, coconut or hemp milk

My ped told me to mix it with water while constipated.

I did 1/2 whole milk, 1/2 water.

Avoid bananas during constipation.

I'd also give some soup, prunes and/or figs.

It works.

DD does this often now (gets constipated), DS eats the exact same & never in his life was constipated. Go figure.

DD drinks an almond/coconut blend, or just coconut. You can find it in the milk section.

My DD has a problem with cows milk

DS had issues when we switched him to whole milk. Horrible gas and stomach issues. We tried lactaid (without the Dr saying so) and it was like night and day.

My son drinks the almond milk...actually I am trying to get all of us to switch over. The almond breeze vanilla seriously tastes like a vanilla milkshake! I give him the unsweetened almond breeze, but mix it with the sweetened one in 2 bottles just to give him more calories.

If I switch to almond milk should I do it gradually with the whole milk?

Re: My DD has a problem with cows milk

DD had non stop diaper rash that started as soon as we transitioned her to whole milk. It got so bad that she sometimes bled. We tried everything from switching diapers, wipes, cutting out acidic food and nothing helped. I discussed it with our ped multiple times and had told him I thought it was the milk. He insisted that he didn't think it was the milk but if I really wanted, I could try other options. We switched her to half almond and half coconut milk. It helped for a little bit but still had some issues. I was noticing her poop was really soft and I didn't think that should be. I read up and found that coconut milk can have that affect. We switched her to just almond milk a few months ago and have been rash free ever since.

Take it from me and trust your gut as a mother. I love our ped but he doesn't know everything and it certainly can't hurt to try other options. I would read up on the pros and cons of each type of milk and see what makes the most sense to you. If one doesn't make a difference, try another.

My DS had the same problem. My ped told us to switch to 2%. We never had a problem with the constipation again.

dd was having a similar issue, now that she is almost 14 months it seems to have gotten a lot better. i make sure she has prunes on a regular basis though.
