Moms of Teenage Girls
If your DD was going on birth control for the first time, what questions would you want her to ask the ob/gyn/what information would you want her to have... regarding the birth control pill itself (not intercourse or other sexual related activity)- solely on the drug itself?

I don't have a teenage girl, but I used to be a pharmacy tech....she should def know that smoking is bad while on the pill and could cause blood clots (not saying she smokes, but teenagers do experiment). Also what side effects to look out for and that it must be taken regularly (same time every day) to be most effective.

The risks involved... Blood clots, stroke, period changes, what medicines can render it ineffective. That it does not protect against STDs. The importance of taking it at the same time and taking it every day.

If she doesn't feel right on the pill she starts with, there are many kinds and she should switch to a diff formula to find one that works for her body.

Re: Moms of Teenage Girls
In addition to risks, she should ask about immediate side effects (ie weight gain, breast soreness and growth, nauseau)
