I'm giving up on trying to make DD nap...
but now what? Anyone have a 2 yr old that gave up their nap? Today we were on the way to the store & of course she fell asleep on the way back at 2:30 which I didn't mind but when I woke her up when we got home after an hour she was miserable. Bedtime was still a disaster even with a short nap. If your DC doesn't nap, do you still have some kind of schedule or do you just go about your day?

I just let my ds nap whenever. Some days it's 1/2 some days it's 2+ and others it's not at all.
A fight isn't worth it IMO. He's happier this way so I am too

That's good, I'm hoping it will be like that for us. Do you do bedtime later on the days he naps? I never know if I'm putting her in too early or too late & she's overtired I guess it's because she gives me a fight no matter what time it is

Bedtime is when he falls asleep. He has no set time.

Re: I'm giving up on trying to make DD nap...
With my 2 year old twins, we are on a schedule. They nap for 2 to 2.5 hours every day and bed time is always the same time. We adjust if the schedule is not working for someone. Mine have NEVER slept in the car. Because of that and having twins, we have been a slave to the schedule for the past 2 years. It works for us though. Good luck! I couldnt imagine if they didnt get a nap/

Re: I'm giving up on trying to make DD nap...
My DD was 2 in August and hasn't had a real nap in her crib in about 2-3 weeks. She is just done. I know she still needs one though because she will fall asleep in the car if we're out in the afternoon. At this point, I'm not going to fight with her about it. She does get a little more cranky than usual towards the evening, but she has a set 7pm bedtime and she is usually passed out within 5-10 min when she doesn't nap. I'd rather her get a good night's sleep then force her to nap during the day.

Re: I'm giving up on trying to make DD nap...
When DS1 was about 30m he gave up napping. Well really he would have napped but we found on days he napped he would be up until 10 or later and DH and I were frustrated bc we never had any downtime. Prior to that time he would nap in the afternoon and then go to be at 8:30.
So I stopped napping him but still had "downtime" I would give him some toys and some books, maybe even a portable DVD player (we didnt have an ipad at the time, lol) and he was allowed to do anything in his room he wanted but he had to stay there for 60-90 mins. (he was only allowed out for bathroom breaks) This worked for a few months until DS2 was born and our schedule was shot to S$*t.
When we stopped napping, bedtime was moved up 30 mins. DS was always on a schedule, we were flexible but it was a schedule more or less. YOu might have to play around a bit to find what time works for you.
DS2 is 2.5yo and only naps 50% of the time. But unless we are running around I do put him in every day. Some days he just talks, yells and plays in his crib, other days he sleeps. But he is in for 90 mins regardless of what he does! (luckily he hasnt tried to climb out of his crib yet)

I'm giving up on trying to make DD nap...
My DD hasnt napped since she was probably 18 months! I just go about my day and I find it so much easier now that I dont have to worry about being home for a nap, trying to get her to nap, etc. She doesnt even fall asleep in the car anymore like she used to. But if we're home in the afternoon, i can tell she gets a little tired around 2 or 3 so we cuddle on the couch, have a snack and watch tv. Its our downtime. Bedtime is still the same at 7pm.

Try the Celine Dion "Miracle" CD played at her naptime. We used it as a naptime CD when I worked at Tutor time. If i started it before anyone was finished eating I would have two year olds sleeping in their chicken nuggets.

I have 2yr old twin boys who still nap. One of them fights it, the other loves it. They will sleep for 2.5-3 hours & the other about 1 1/2. If my difficult sleepr is going to fight it, I lay on the floor in the bedroom until he falls asleep. It's not very often...but they have to stay together on schedule. If I don't do that they he will fall asleep at 5pm & I am not dealing with that when bedtime is 7:30

DS is going to be 2 this week and starting to skip naps here and there. I can tell he is tired though so i still put him in his crib at his usual nap time. If he naps great, if not, he usually rests for about half an hour before he really starts fussing. On days he doesn't nap, I do try to put him to bed a little earlier to make up for it.

Re: I'm giving up on trying to make DD nap...
My DD gave up her 1 and only nap right before she turned 2. She was never a good napper. She won't even nap in the car anymore unless she's REALLY exhausted, like after playing for a long time at the park.
She's always been pretty good at going to sleep at night and she sleeps for 11-12 hours at night.
I miss the nap way more than she does!
ETA, if we're home, I'll do the downtime like PP mentioned. We cuddle on my bed and watch TV, but she never falls asleep.
