Dr told me that there was a 1 in 78 chance of our baby having downs syndrome. She wants me to go to a genetic counselor and get the maternit21 test. I will not get a cvs or amino. I know sooo many people get false screenings so I'm praying for that. I couldn't stop crying at first, but I'm just going to be positive for now. The waiting will be the worst part.

Anyone go through this? I wasn't even gonna get the test because of all the false positives.

This is the reason I refused these tests.

The only advice I have is to think of the positive. It's basically saying if you had 78 babies, 77 would be just fine. It's still a really small chance that something is wrong.

My DD had a 1:60-something chance of having Downs. She was not born with it. I really hate some of those tests, because they scare the crap out of you.

There is a 1% chance of your baby being born with Down's syndrome THEREFORE there is a 99% chance that your baby will NOT have Down's syndrome. Meet with a genetic counselor-I found it very reassuring. My genetic counselor advised against getting the ultra screen and the MaterniT21 test since both are screening tests.

My test came back with a chance of downs (I was not given a percentage). I had to take the materniT21 test at my obgyn. He called two days later and said he was unable to collect enough blood. I had to go to Winthrop perinatal unit to get the test again. A week later of waiting, and it was told there wasn't enough fetal DNA in the blood. I was so upset and angry.

They wanted me to go back to Winthrop to get the test again. I was stuck 10 times by 3 different nurses and they could not get more than a few drops of blood from me. One nurse kept pressuring me to get an amino (which I did not want, and the dr told me he didn't want to do!). She kept saying it over and over and then asked me if I was planning to terminate my pregnancy. I was so furious that she had the audacity to ask me that!

The dr asked me to return the next day and I told him I refused to see that nurse from the previous day. I was in tears all night because of her. He assured me I wouldn't have to, met meant he parking lot and brought me up to the oncology unit where two more nurses tried and one FINALLY got enough blood to fill two vials to perform the Verifi test. A week later the test came back with no genetic abnormalities.

It was very stressful and trying but I was glad that my little guy was fine. I pray you have an easier experience than me and pray for good results!

My nt scan and bloodwork put our risk at 1/11!!!!

I ended up having a cvs and the maternit21 test. All came back negative. It was an extremely difficult time in my pregnancy
But I now look at my 16 day old DD and just smile and am very very thankful she's ok

I also got the MaterniT21 at Winthrop Perinatal. They also found markers from our test for Downs Syndrome even though we never got percentages. The test itself for me anyway was painless. A quick blood test. It took 10 days to get the results and that was the hardest part. I didn't sleep that whole time and it was my only thought 24/7. It was a difficult time because only my husband and I and a friend from work knew. The test did come back negative.

I know plenty if people who get results like that with the NT. I hate the test. However I would not get the MaterniT 21 because that will also only give you odds.

Thanks, ladies. All of your stories make me feel better. I wish I never got this test. It seems like there are soooo many women who had false results from the screening. It's ridiculous. The waiting is torture. I tried making an appointment with the genetic counselor Friday so I could get the Maternit21 test, but no answer. Im hoping to make an appt tomorrow for this week and then the dreaded waiting.

We went through the same thing with ds2. I was a wreck. The genetic counseling didn't help. I opted not to do further testing. My ds was born healthy. Don't stress!

I also had a terrible time with the NT.The blood test showed a 1 in 68 chance of Down's Syndrome.We saw a genetic counselor ,too. We opted out of an amnio or cvs . Actually, come to think of it , it was almost 2 years ago that we were told this. I remember because I found out after Thanksgiving but before Christmas and it almost ruined the holidays for me, I was so stressed. The week of Christmas the results of the 20 week blood tests came back with 1 in 240 odds so I was finally able to relax. My DD does not have Down's Syndrome. I spoke to so many people with similar horror stories of false positives when I went through this. Good luck and many prayers .
